Was looking into why the summaries of genres etc seem so odd (I've been listening to Pink Pilates Princess Rollerskating RnB, apparently) and it seems Spotify have laid off a ton of engineers this year.

Yeah the whole thing reeks of AI this year in particular.

My list was heavily weighted to artists who played Glastonbury this year - I did a lot of prep - with James, Stornoway, Aurora, the National and - and this one could not have taken me more by surprise, I feel like I've listed to one of their albums a couple of times - I Am Kloot my top five artists. I'm not sure which of them play pink pilates princess strut pop, though.

Not sure how I avoided all the baby lullabies and white noise from making my list, but happy it didn’t. It must be excluded?! Surprised Fontaines and Favourite didn’t make the cut. Minutes down big time from last year due to the little one and the need for silence.

I thought the same! My Last fm says my number 1 artist is 'Dream Supplier' but think Wrapped must exclude it fortunately otherwise top 100 songs of 2024 would have just been white noise 😅

Instead..

It feels like this year's wrapped was a bit of a wet fart to me.  Restricted to the app (I use the web version) and no wrapped playlist like previous years.  I loved sharing wrapped playlists with friends and family to get a bit of flavour of their listening, and my listening this year was massively influenced by how much I loved my son's wrapped playlist from last year, hence apparently this year I listened to more Olivia Rodrigo than is healthy.

There is a playlist, but it's hidden away. I found it on the app, but I can't see what you'd click on on a web browser to make it appear unfortunately.

It's also not entirely legit. It might be your top 100 songs, but it's not in a true order. Perrie's first single was pushed all the way to 11 on my list and I've barely listened to it. Obvious case of manipulation.

Did anyone listen to their freaky AI podcast about their music listening? I had no interest but I find the central concept weird to begin with.

I listened for about 30 seconds then had the troubling thought that someone somewhere thought it was a good idea.

Yeah this is the impression a few have had.

There's a lot of AI stuff out there that has this feeling of people proving its possible to do it without stopping to think if it's a good idea, whether ethically or just because it's a sh*t idea to begin with.

Basically if you listen to an artist repeatedly on the run up to seeing them they are typically in the top 5. I generally just let the algorithm do its thing and auto play relevant songs so most of my listening time is just that.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
