The problems for Labour got bad due to the public not liking things about the previous leaders personality.

Major hospitality staff shortages around here. And of course, everywhere is absolutely slammed too. Don't know if it's entirely Brexit related or other factors too. Would guess some people might not want to work in a job that brings them in to contact with a lot of people. And of course, not wanting to risk losing your job if there are more lockdowns.

We're not too bad as we have a couple of factors in our favour (a company that a certain type of person wants to work for but more importantly, cheap accommodation for staff) and I think we've filled nearly all the seasonal roles we have but I know we were choosing from fewer applicants than usual. But there are places around which are desperate. I'm seeing job adverts offering much higher wages and better terms than I've ever seen

Not sure it's specifically about Brexit ttho brexit probably doesn't help. Around me it seemed like the pandemic had a lot of Europeans people return to their home countries... And they don't seem to have come back yet. In theory they can come back but there's lots of different reasons why they might choose not to brexit means that other Europeans can't come in place of them.

Useless Dowden and Johnson are quick to stick up for that cricketer’s decade-old tweets (obviously is a long time ago so the punishment does seem harsh) but not so bothered about the racists booing the footballers taking the knee (they ‘respect people’s right’ to do the action - but nothing about without abuse): https://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/57383097.amp

There was a West End fundraiser event last night, festivals and grassroots venues/smaller sports teams are being crippled. Shouldn’t the culture secretary be more focused on issues like that?

I only saw 1 clip of it when he was talking about his Mums passing, it was sad. From the brief clip, Starmer came across quite well.

Listening to Matthew d'Ancona talking about this on R4 Today programme...all part of the strategy to keep the cultural war thing going on...govt are on the side of all those supposedly against woke. This is going to go on and on. Grim.

Perhaps, a years a long time in politics.

The economic recovery is not certain. There are a lot of strange effects going on at once both domestically and in the wider world. Uncharted territory really. My gut feeling is that a lot of growth stocks are overvalued at the moment and so a lot of small investors are quite heavily exposed to inflation, meanwhile the housing market has had a big bubble owing to that same boom in investments/savings (which since interest has been so low has also largely taken the form of investments in financial assets). So depending on the size of a big consumption boom (ie if its sharp enough to be a ’shock’) coupled with higher inflation could certainly have adverse effects on small investors and the housing market. A downturn in the housing market always has negative effects on the wider economy.

But lets see anyway!
