A lot of talk here about side effects. I had AZ, and it was fabulous. Stiff arm aside, I felt quite spaced out. The kind of spaced out you’d pay for. Like maybe I’d had a third of an E or something. Lasted about a day, day and a half. It was lovely.

how weird. Mine was more like a come down.

How do they know if its the testing or the masks that stop an outbreak ?

This one is focusing on the testing and the logistics of doing so. Those who tested negative obviously didn't get to go.

Exactly, this shit will not end on 21st June as some are expecting..

Covid is going to be around for longer than that. Will be good to be almost normal again. I hate masks. And hospital is like an extremelockdown. Will be glad to get out of here about a week last i was told nurse earlier said i shouldn't get my hope up.

But to test a mitigation technique you have to do so in isolation.  Unless the view is masks Will always play a role.

It will only really test logistics

Indeed, but there are further events planned on similar scale.

Still way ahead of what the UK Government and Event Research Programme have planned for April, I would expect us not to be doing similar tests much later into June at a guess.

yeah...maybe. You had pfizer, right? No side effects?

I know about 5 people who have had AZ and all felt a bit rubbish the  next day, mostly a headache and just tired/crappy. My missus got it pretty bad, but not 100% sure if that was just vaccine, or it triggered a migraine. My mum and dad both had pfizer and were fine, but then they're ancient.

It seems to vary a lot. At the centre I volunteer at a lot of young uns said they had a bad time with AZ, but both my parents had it (60s and 70s) with no problems at all.

I felt a bit rubbish and tired with a sore arm, which I thought was down to the jab (obviously the sore arm was). But then I felt really tired after my second volunteering shift this week too, so might just be me getting used to that. Either way I definitely didn't have any fever or body aches or anything, maybe a bit of a headache.

Definitely seem to have heard of more people having issued after AZ than Pfizer though, both in this thread and beyond. A lot of my friend's parents felt rough after AZ.

All totally worth it I reckon, though.

I've just made my first social plan since early December: meeting a friend in a park for some tins next weekend. Really looking forward to it.

Looking at the rules, I'm not sure if this is within the definition of "staying local" as that is pretty damn vague. I have to get a train to see anyone I know, so I suspect not, but am going to go for it anyway!

I'd say that's ok, I would say 'local' is more not travelling to the other end of the country?

It doesn't really matter if it 'ends', i.e. we never have another case of Covid. What matters is it is controlled to a sufficient level to not be a significant public health risk.

To consider it otherwise is to have lockdowns annually for the flu, as I imagine any winter Covid wave in the vaccinated UK would be no worse than a normal flu season.

We mentioned this last night ... but maybe it’s because more people have been given the az vaccine so we are more likely to hear about people getting effects from it ... as it’s page 3000 we can’t let it past without an @Toilet Duck intervention ... any idea if this is the case or not ? Crap we are now on 3001 😀

Howdy, to be honest, all the side effects from the different vaccines seem to match pretty well with the phase 2 and phase 3 data from each of them. Oxford noted that adverse effects were lower at 2nd dose compared to 1st dose, which still seems to be the case. Pfizer noted a slight increase in AEs at dose 2, which also seems to mirror people’s experience. Loads of people on both trials reported no side effects at all (which again, tallies with real world experience, you just don’t hear about them as much as there’s nothing to report). Since almost all AEs from all of these vaccines require no medical intervention though, it can be difficult to define precisely or compare between them (self reported symptoms are notoriously variable and subjective!). There have been the really really rare AEs that are now noted in the advice for patients, which occur at a frequency that would have made them difficult to pick up in the trials, but in general, what we are seeing in widespread use is what was seen in the trials.

It's amazing how out of touch these organisations are. Just because they talk science all day they released this sort of thing arguing over semantics. For the rest of us we don't care what the right term is, we just understand it as it is, that sharing air with other people is bad. We might call that airborne or droplet but it means the same thing

And they were pushing that just washing your hands was enough for ages

Far from a formality, considering they don't even know what trials they are doing past next month or the ones mentioned, never mind the ones needed for preparing for opening of mass gatherings later in the summer..

That wasn't even technically true was it @Toilet Duck?

"I think if by that stage, when we have got the vaccine rollout proceeding, we have the effects of summer in terms of surprising a respiratory disease, we have to get those areas of national life back towards a commercial viability," he told LBC.

"If we can't do it then I fear we won't do it for many years to come and of course we will look at all these factors and measures that we can take to mitigate risk and maximise numbers."

I interpreted that second paragraph as essentially “if not now, then when?”.  I don’t think we’ll have restrictions on mass events for years. We may have to test ourselves beforehand or show proof of vaccination, but these requirements will go over time.

I interpreted it the same way, but if the goal is to open up but prevent all transmission of the virus even after vaccination then the events probably can't or even shouldn't happen until everyone has proof of vaccine (personally I don't care about other people's vaccination status but many do I guess)

Its pointed out in the article that self reporting is ridiculous when people have tickets to an event, then you're looking at a logistical nightmare to get people tested either at the event or beforehand in front of someone.

I think this is all still a lot more up in the air then we first thought.

Of course it is, it's far from what people are expecting that all will be well come 21st June.

But then it was always stated in the roadmap that all restrictions being lifted on that date were dependant on the results from the research programme.

Many didn't (and still don't) see past the headline date, and don't read the small print...

Am still of the thinkin we will be at least a month behind that date, but depends on how our Government progresses the trials/research into mass gatherings being opened up.
More info to be released by early next month from the DCMS should give us a better idea where we will be by then.

Yeah that's how I understand that too. He is basically saying that if we don't do it this summer we are never going to do it, which is not a desirable outcome. So if anything I read that as being more likely to try to make it work.

Which would be mid-August at the earliest if they hit their target of end of July.

Self-reporting would never work, nor would they attempt that am sure. They used 3 locations for that 5000 test event in Spain which took all day, imagine trying to do that for an 85k capacity festival, will never happen.

    • 1000% agree with this. I was there last night, ridiculous how good he was.
    • Hi Everyone!   I need your help. I'm trying work out who was playing at The Wishing Well at 3am on the Monday morning at the 2025 festival - this was once the official setlist had ended. The music was down tempo, bass heavy, kept evolving, just mesmerising. Anyone have any ideas? and/or was there as well?
