yeah, have to see what happens next month. A big part is people's perception of what going from lockdown to Tier3 actually means...

You see quite a few experts saying that tier 3 on its own isn’t enough to get infections down to a level where we can open things fully back up again. Cases will get to a certain level and then plateau but not drop down low enough. I’ve seen some experts that say this lockdown isn’t enough.

but seeing how rapidly it spreads and how ill people get, I'm sure someone would have noticed something was up if we were going through a first wave last winter.

Not necessarily. Outbreaks of diseases don't start big, there's a slow drip, drip, drip effect until it gets going. Also don't forget even in China the disease was described as pneumonia until it was noticed as distinct. In the UK when the disease hit it escalated exceedingly rapidly in most of the country forcing a lockdown. This suggests the disease was circulating undetected for quite a period as it established a foothold.

With 20-30k cases per day how long before you run out of people to catch it and the rate drops?

Matt Hancock is giving a press conference at 5 this evening.

I know it won't be this but would it be possible for any oxford vaccine news to be embargoed for the government to announce it at one of their briefings?

Thinking hypothetically but probably completely wrong...!

Wouldn’t imagine the Oxford vaccine news is the property of the government

They’ve said there will be briefings every Monday and Thursday until lockdown ends

Nah not a chance. The news of it passing regulatory approval may be embargoed until announced by the govt though

Is it possible we'll hear of both the trial results and it being granted regulatory approval at the same time?

I think i've read that they are reviewing the safety data in a rolling manor which makes that potentially possible?

Johnson was going to be kicking off his Premiership again by doing weekly Press Conferences on a Monday. As he’s self isolation he can’t do that so Hancock is coming out. I imagine this is a general update on lockdown and the virus.

To get to 70% of the population having had it at that rate about 1500 days (4 years).

Are you counting everyone that's already had it? :D Wouldn't the infection rate would drop before you got to 70%? We arent talking about herd immunity, just to get the rate to drop :)

I hope when they drop the the lock, no matter what tieranny they put us in, they get rid of that fucking cerfew.

They should hopefully do that, although as I say I have doubts if tier 3 is enough to get numbers down really low. They might be enough for higher cases but I’m not sure if they would work when cases get lower.

Maybe they could close schools a week or two early before christmas...it's all christmas bollocks in the last weeks of term anyway.

Then the kids are at home all day getting excited about Christmas instead of being at school out of the way.

Feel sorry those parents trying to work from home.

Well, yeah....but tough shit for having kids...right?

I can’t complain about people having kids. They’re little shits who break beds all the time by jumping on them so people have to keep buying new beds which keeps me in employment.

And also the act of ‘creation’ of the kids themselves keep you in employment for similar reasons?

    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
    • I'm definitely not camping 🙂.  My 17 year old Daughter and her friends are there 3 days and commuting back to Sheffield each day as didn't want to camp .  I am taking and picking up the Saturday so thought I may as well get a ticket as love Fontaines DC - need to do a lot of research on the other acts though to fill my day.    I walked through the camp site other year the day Arctic Monkeys played and it was like a War Zone.  My Son has camped a couple of times but didn't fancy my Daughter staying over.
    • Not at all impressed with Polanski saying "noone should be barred from public life" wrt the Tory neo-nazi. I really don't think "no nazis in politics" should be an excessive standard.
