2020 headliners

That Big Thief Garden Stage was beset by technical problems but I still loved it and their stock has only risen since then. They are definitely worthy of headline status if the rumours are true.

Don't forget this is a festival that has had Bat For Lashes and Wild Beasts as headliners. They pride themselves in giving unexpected headliners a bit of a boost if they feel they warrant the opportunity.

Big Thief? I like em on record but that Garden show was appalling...mid-afternoon would work for them

They came one place short of having two top 40 albums last year and they're playing Hammersmith Apollo and Manchester Albert Hall on their upcoming tour. They're a great deal bigger than mid-afternoon. Plus their Green Man '19 set (main stage, third from top behind Stereolab and Four Tet) was outstanding.

Let's steal an idea from the Green Man thread:

Before Tuesday, name five acts other than the three rumoured that you predict will play EOTR, and maybe once everything is announced we can come back to it and see how well we did.

WH Lung

Penelope isles

Lanterns on the Lake

Andy Shauf

Toy

I enjoyed Big Thief’s Garden Stage set, I think they’re great live but part of what makes it so enjoyable is the way it all seems like it could fall apart at any moment. It’s not a slick reproduction of their records. Unsure how well that would translate to a main stage headlining show but they are definitely “big” enough for it and as others have said EOTR definitely like to give acts their first big breakthrough headlining slot.

Main stage headliners aren’t the main selling point of EOTR for me though, I’d actually prefer a great garden stage headliner if it came to a choice.

    • Orbital opening the Other stage is a bold choice!
    • Great start for them
    • Thanks so much - that's very helpful. Someone else mentioned getting a train from Loughborough to East Midlands Parkway, and then a festival shuttle from there to the site. I think they were then going to come back on the Skylink Derby to Loughborough - I assume this is because the trains don't run as late as the Skylink, otherwise they would just come back the same way they came?! Is the transport hub a long way from the main stage? Just wondering what time I would need to leave Linkin Park to be sure of getting a shuttle. As I say, I am sure it will all be clear on the day, even after a few beers! Just hope the rain stays away...
    • I really don't think they would put Olivia Rodrigo on Occident stage. If it was her, they would put her in earlier Mordor slot and move Big Thief or Little Simz to Occident.   Fontaines DC are more probable, but don't really match the hype. However, again, if the hype was real, the artist would end up in Mordor.   That being said, I would love to see Fontaines DC tonight.
    • After all the good advice on here I had a nice visit to the site earlier in the week.    Walked down from Pilton village to Hitchen Hill and down the footpath to the Wood by Woodies.    Really strange seeing the site empty of 100,000 people. There is far more hedges and woodland on the site than you remember when the festival is on. Can see the stone circle and some structures still up on site. And looks like Worthy View has some camping going on there during the summer too.   Lots was fenced off with electric fencing to help wth the cattle grazing. Is really amazing how they set up the site as its hard enough accessing the area by car and foot nevermind all the kit needed to set the festival up. As others said you can't walk the whole site but nice to see the site again after a few years away   Pilton is also a lovely village with a nice village hall shop and post office attached, and got to speak to some locals who told me a few tales of past festivals down the years. One house for sale there would be lovely to live in - if only I had £2 million going spare
