If the preparty isnt exciting I'm thinking of going to the Macy Gray and Blind Boys of Alabama show which is at the Botanical Gardens (Alfonso XIII), anyone been to that venue? Is it a decent spot to go for a concert?

also thinking about this concert Amadou & Mariam are good, been there last year for David Byrne concert,  it's nice and not that big place but would recommend if you go to the standing area to come early, I was thinking it's small so I won't have any problem to get good spot so I came from a afternoon at the Retiro park and of course buy some food and drink there and when I got the stage area few minutes before the concert start it was very crowded and i couldn't see nothing from the stage although I'm not short so I needed to go to the sides and stand on some things, but I would say it fells a bit like overbooking which I'm not sure is happening every concert there and David Byrne might be more popular. as for the seating area I wasn't there but it seems you have a good view from any place but although there were screens strangely they didn't work during the show.. maybe if I'll come I'll try it this time

    • No worries, it's a perfectly fair question to ask. I would expect people to be talking at the back & near the bars & that is where I would want them to be talking. If your group are enjoying yourselves & the music & briefly chatting to say how much you are loving a certain song etc, you would be an ideal group to stand behind.   My issue is with people having full blown conversations (usually unrelated what is on the stage) whilst being surrounded by people who are trying to listen to the music. This was happening in the middle and towards the front of all stages, & so you have limited options to move around & you may have spent 20 minutes waiting for the band trying to get the closest position that you can. If there's a group of 8 people, there may be 2 or 3 that like the band & the rest will start talking if the music isn't their thing. This may be the norm now for festivals, and if it is, that's ok & I will focus on a band's own gigs & UK based new music festivals.    I'm also not including consequences of my own decision making. I saw Geese on Wednesday so went to Occident after Men I Trust finished so it was understandable there would be chatting that far back. Similarly, getting to The XX after Olivia Rodrigo along with most of the site, I knew my chance of a good spot & a chat-free zone had gone so that was completely reasonable.   PS. I went to Bilbao BBK in 2023 & 2025 & enjoyed it. For Pulp & Kylie in 2025, I got a position early & was surrounded by a respectful & fun crowd for both. The UK non-headlining bands tend to go on the undercover 3rd stage, & most people like to congregate outside so you can usually get close to the front of that stage.
    • Interview on 6 music earlier, was going to get the album to have a listen, but comes out the day they play the festival
    • Additional dates added already
    • I feel like it's not COMPLETELY beyond the realm of possibility that they could headline but I just don't see it.    They're not doing anything other than headlining. So nah, I don't see it.
    • Consider that the sound quality can be better near the front bars right behind the soundbooth rather than closer to the stage, like with mbv. And of course, the front sections are full of talkers too.   The most courteous move would be to have conversations in the very back of the field.
