Convincing friends to go!!!

Yoyo, haven't been on here in time, good to be back!! So our group this year all went to Boomtown, about 40 of us, it was absolutely banging. But I still don't think it is as good as Glastonbury. So I'm trying to get people to come, but obviously it is to understand how good Glastonbury is / how it is worth the dollar without having been. So far, I have 3 people on board. I have come for advice, how have you convinced people in the past?? How do I do it!?

Well on Saturday night I managed to convince my best friend to come hopefully, I've registered him myself and am going to buy his ticket and then he has to come... because of the implication. I would suggest showing some highlight videos, expressing that it really is like no other festival, I cannot help but get super excited when I talk about Glastonbury so I think how good it is just shines through my enthusiasm.

Don't even try and convince them - if they want to go they will and anyway, Glastonbury is shit so nobody should bother trying for tickets ;)

Absolutely.  I'm pretty sure we had agreed an eFests moratorium on convincing more people to try and get tickets.  Your friends will probably hate it, and then you wouldn't enjoy yourself as a result.  Save yourself :)

I wouldn't bother, I convinced some of my friends to come in 2014 and it wasn't the best year tbh

They'd all done festivals before but the scale of Glastonbury made me and the wife feel like we were babysitting the first timers a bit.

They wouldn't go off and their own and we were always waiting around while people went to get drinks, toilets, food ect

its much easier if it's your core group who has been before. I go with just my wife now and then meet up every now and again with my brothers group of 6 who go together every year, they camp seperately from us and both groups come and go as we please

Just going on the website and seeing the pictures was enough for me! The BBC do good highlights videos on YouTube so it's worth showing those to them. Glastonbury is something that's special though so I don't think anyone should really need to be convinced if they really wanted to go they'll just take one look and fall in love

I have been with a group of 13 for 5 years, last year I went with 1 mate. I loved it even more than ever before. Personally I wouldn't convince anyone to go. They may hate it and you would be responsible for their happiness. I did miss my usual crew this year, but I loved it more than I missed them if you know what I mean?

But as others have alluded to, perhaps direct them to videos on youtube - particuarly the ones taken around the camp and in and around the festival - rather than just the bands. I obsess over those videos in the run up to Glastonbury! Get me in the mood so much.

I just wouldn't bother trying too hard to convince them

They've been to other festival(s), they know you love Glastonbury, they've surely seen coverage on TV.....so, if they're not already motivated to try for tickets, I'd leave them to it and just go with a smaller group....much easier to organise

Good luck on ticket day....bet you can't wait to see the newbie faces on arrival!!! always one of the best moments

I went on my own this year as an oxfam volunteer had a mint time and posted pics online now the people who weren't arsed to go last year are desperate for tix this year!

Nobody who hasn't been before is desperate for tickets. They may be mildly pleasantly  distracted by the thought of a week on the farm,  but desperate, no.

Desperation is the preserve of saddos like us,  who post away on message boards in the middle of winter,  and wouldn't know what do do with a free weekend at the end of June if presented with a book entitled "Things to do if you have a free weekend at the end of June".

Let them feign desire, let them even feign excitement. They may well take our tickets,  but they will never take our desperation!!!!!!
