Silver Hayes

I've read numerous complaints about Silver Hayes since it was introduced a couple of years ago, issues such as sound bleed between Sonic, Gully and Blues stages, Sonic not big enough, overcrowding, not enough of a specific genre of electronic music, not as good as the old dance village, etc.

So what improvements would people make? Fewer stages, bigger main tents? Better positioning? Label-curated stages? More or less of a specific genre?

Acoustics in Sonic are awful unless you are in the middle of the centre POD which is normally rammo (it suits the silent disco though). I personally like Blues and had a great night Thursday last year for Circo Loco but the location (of Silver Hayes in general) is just feels a bit baron and almost forgotten!

Not really answering the question.... but the Gully usually seems to have a good line up and have had some good fun there...

Only ventured a few times into silver hayes. Must have been about 12-12:30 on the Saturday. WOW for EZ was rammed and couldn't get in. Fat Boy in the Gully was rammed and could barely here with how far back we were. There was nothing going on in Sonic. We left straight away and headed towards the SE corner Via Stonebridge bar and stayed in there for a bit. Ventured into SE corner from then and had the same problem getting in places. I've learnt that after 12:00am if you get in somewhere stay there as otherwise you will spend a lot of time looking for somewhere else to get in.

I think the main problem with that area is that it feels too much like a thoroughfare, and as such it's probably the least relaxed spot in the festival.

Also the new silver Sonic tent doesn't work for me at all unfortunately, it's misconceived. I think the previous big top was better.

I really like the Gully and the Blues, they're great additions, but as a whole I don't think they've ever got that area quite right. 

As for what I'd do to make it better... ummm... Dunno! Maybe bin it off entirely! Perhaps if there was a way to have the main path run down one side of the area rather than through the middle, that it might create more of a cosy intimate vibe. But then I guess the sound would bleed between stages even worse than it does now. Hmmmm.

Well with the John Peel stage moving, the area will no longer be as much of a thoroughfare as it sounds like going via the Pyramid would be a far more direct route now.

Could manage to improve Silver Hayes without actually having to change anything within it.

Sonic is an awful "tent" and the sound is shit. why they don't just replace it with a normal tent is beyond me.

Wow is far too small for many of the acts that play it.

Both correct and seemingly obvious to everyone. Strange that they don't seem to do anything about it.

Yes Wow is terrible and almost always rammed. I do have a bit of a soft spot for the gully and the blues though.

True, it's less direct, but if you're at The Other Stage or coming along the railway track surely you'll still get there quicker by going via Silver Hayes? I could be wrong, I do have a terrible sense of direction!

One thing that has been mentioned on here several times is the ID spiral tent that was there years ago, it was an ambient chill out dome tent, something offered other than just stages in the dance area, something the area misses and something the festival could do with more of, especially at night

I think it might be quicker going up that market street to the right of the Pyramid/left of the Other. Depends how they arrange it I guess.

I have no other issues with the place other than the mud nightmare it becomes with a splash of rain, but what can you do about that?

I had assumed that it was a bespoke tent made just for Glastonbury?  Hence they'll probably keep using it for a while yet as it would of cost them a few quid. It's a shame as it is very poor, probably the worst stage in the whole festival.

I like the gully and blues bit, was good to pass by there on the way back to the tent and have one last bop before bed but the rest seems like a bit of a mess to me.

Really dislike the Beat Hotel area and avoid it at all costs. SH is full of kids but for the right acts can generate a decent atmosphere.

We ended up there on the Thursday night last year for a bit. Didn't really take to it (although I did think BBC Introducing was ok) and didn't go back the rest of the weekend.

I'm a big fan of the Beat Hotel as is my group. Couldn't be further away from 'lads on tour' types if we tried.
