Radiohead touring in 2016

seen a lot of 'their best album since Kid A's being thrown about, and though the album is undeniably strong, did these people not listen to In Rainbows!?

and they've like... got to have a string section or something accompanying them when touring this, right? almost every song is absolutely jam packed with huge orchestration. must've been something to those rumours way back when the Roudhouse shows got announced

2018 is the fallow year

Or 2019, depending on how planning for the new 'event' go.

It might be the hangover but I just cried like a little baby to true love waits, what an incredible album!

I'm with you completely. It's almost suffocating.

That track is a weird one though. If we hadn't spent all these years listening to the live acoustic version (which is one of my favourite songs of all time), I would say True Love Waits is hands down the best track on the album. It's fucking stunning. Words can't do it justice. But I'll always prefer the acoustic version and it just makes me feel a bit weird that they have finally released an album version. Don't quite know what to make of it. But what an amazing way to end an album though.

I can't decide what to buy:

Digital album only

Digitsl album then CD

Special edition

Not sure if I can justify £50 extra for two tracks, two vinyls that I can't play and a case  that I can't fit on my CD rack. Hope they release bonus tracks in the future.

Need to listen before Roundhouse but really want CD. Shoplifting seems like the most plausible solution as it stands.

been hovering over the 'buy' button for the special edition since i finished the album. it's pointless. i'll get exactly the same benefits as i would from the regular CD. but i want it i want it i want it!

2 extra tracks and digital version now. Artwork I couldn't care less about and vinyl useless to me but still thinking I'm leanin towards getting it.

The word now, as in now 27, what a compilation.

Gone for the vinyl myself. Money's a bit too tight between now and Glastonbury to splash out on the special editions.

yeah i know that i'll be thinking come Glastonbury time 'shit i really could've done with that £50' - especially as i won't even get the bastard thing until September! - but after a few more listens tomorrow i can definitely see myself falling in to the 'fuck it' bracket and buying it

Should have taken me up on my "split the special edition" offer. I'd even make copies of bonus CD.

Same here. The special edition seems like a really nice overall package but not enough additions musically to make me fork out £60

Although;

"Each loop contains about ¾ of a second of audio - which could be from any era in the band's recording past going back to Kid A. You may have silence, you may have coloured leader tape, you may have a chorus... It's a crapshoot."

ARRRGGHH!

The white vinyl will be sought after.

So if I buy the special edition, can I sell the vinyl on viagogo for £1k+?

Obiviously i'd have to meet the buyer in person though which would be awkward

I hope the rumour about two acts at the roundhouse is true. The mere thought of them performing this in full with a full orchestra is making me weak at the knees.

people are reselling Radiohead tickets for upwards of a grand, but because of the rules and restrictions with photo ID it means they'd have to meet the person they've swindled at the gig and walk in with them

yep that would be so so good. new album in full/select orchestral songs from their catalogue for one set, straight up Radiohead set for the other

Finally finished it all, had some cereal and a cuppa, and here are my thoughts:

It's a phenomenal record. Quite how phenomenal I'm not sure. Obviously it needs hundreds more listens. It's instantly in their top 4 albums though.

My instant reaction is that it's the most mature and emotional album they have released yet. It's so dense and almost suffocating in places. There's so much going on that it's hard to wrap your head around it.

I don't think I've ever felt anything quite as extraordinary listening to a record as I did during True Love Waits.

depends on what they play live really. for The Roundhouse i can see them having a string section and doing a lot of the album. for festivals, I could see them only playing a few that don't rely on strings so much (eg. Ful Stop, Identikit, Present Tense), and a mix of previous stuff.

    • It would be piss-easy for a bot to manage, though.
    • I've heard that ticket sales for other events that use the same system have included the question 'are you still there?' on each window/browser you have with a place in the queue. If you don't confirm you are, it'll assume you're not and that place will drop.   I've no idea if Glasto/See will adopt this, but it would be challenging to keep on top of with many windows open.
    • People who're struggling are already priced out, so I don't think a bump in price will affect who attends. There'll still be a cross section, leaning young. I also think they'll do a soft breaking of the £400 ceiling, keeping the ticket price just below but having postage take it over. Next year the ticket itself will be over that threshold.

    • Not sure if this has been mentioned but new La Roux album out November - was meant to play in 2020 but hasn't found her way back onto a lineup. If any excuse just to hear this absolute banger on the fields next year!
