Yes Lucy.  Yes we could.  The singalong to Better Man at MK last year was outstanding, can only imagine what it would sound like on the Pyramid.

Fabulous. We'd need plenty of gin and a lot of tissues. I can see a mass Glastonbury moment!!

I don't usually get teary at gigs, but Sirens at MK had me complaining of dust in my eye. And then when they played Crown of Thorns, that almost sent me right over the edge.

Some really emotional moments in the film. The footage of them the night Kurt Cobain died and the Roskilde tragedy in particular.

If people want an entry point the film is what you want to watch. Other than that start at 'Ten' and work your way forwards. As an aside I prefer the updated mix of Ten that came out a few years ago with the yellow/Gold cover. It sounds even better than the original, less reverb, more in your face and more like the sound of 5 guys in a room together making great music. Brendan O'Brien said that is how he would have liked the album to have sounded had he had his time again producing it.

The Ten Redux is a great remix, but I think the CDs have been mastered a bit loud for it.  The vinyl is incredible sounding though, I never listen to the original mix now.

I have to confess to only following PJ as far as Vitalogy. I should remedy that. I'll also watch the film!!

same here Lucy.

Loved them in me yoof.  went off them after Vitalogy but luckily The Fixer got me back into them :)

Loved the last 2 albums and went to IoW specifically to see them (the other 2 headliners werent bad either :) )  they were brilliant - first time I actually heard Better Man !!

Missed MK last year due to £££ and cant wait to see them again.

But if Foos headline next year doubt PJ will be there also.

Edit PJ 20 is a great documentary and help my rennaisance with them :)

I shall investigate more of their stuff, is The Fixer recent? I'll do a bit of reserach I think.

I've never seen them live, would really really like to though :)

The Fixer is off their album Backspacer about 6 years ago. Backspacer is definitely their most commercial and accessible album to date. It's absolutely brilliant from start to finish.

How have we got to page 3 without anybody complaining about the title of this thread?

I figured we must be in the between-times, the not-so-long-ago when we don't believe any rumours at all. We know how it works now

I was at this concert 2012, I think it's an amazing setlist. It was the first concert in Sweden for 12 years (the previous one being the concert just before Roskilde 2000). 5 out of the 9 that died was Swedish and some of their families were invited by the band. The concert was extremely well recieved in the media. In the biggest newspaper it was one of two concerts in 2012 that got a 5/5 rating, with the writer starting the review with "I've called Pearl Jam the most boring band in the world". Stone Gossard said in an interview last year about the concert:

" Everyone talked about it afterwards. It was on of the unusual nights when we went out and everything just clicked. When the band and the crowd was one. It's wonderful when magical nights like that happen, and it truly doesn't happen every night"

Mike McCready still have a picture 3 years later as his header on facebook :)

Anyway, here's the video on youtube. It was some guy at the 10c forum that matched the bootleg (that is another awesome PJ thing, always releasing concert bootlegs) with various recordings from the audience.

Highlights:

Just Breathe - not very fond of that song, but dedicated to the families of the roskilde tragedy.

i don't think it'll ever happen (as many have stated - not current enough or 'heritage' enough to fill either of those criteria) but i've massively warmed to the idea of it happening. they'd probably pull a pitiful crowd, but it'd be a fantastic show. but considering IOW is the first UK fest they've done in a long time and that Reading/Download/Sonisphere haven't booked them (for whatever reason) in recent times suggests that they're really not on the agenda for festival bookers. i have my fingers crossed for you though guy! someday!

Wouldn't say that. I think it's more likely they've been approached by festivals (well, the latter two) and not wanted to play them than their phone hasn't been ringing. I think they're not keen on playing heavier rock and metal events but there have been rumours they were all ready to play Download 2013 before the tour was cancelled so I dunno if that's still true.

yeah i've heard a lot of stuff about them supposedly being lined up to play Download but i'm not sure whether to buy in to that. even if they were booked, Download - a festival who's struggle for new headliners is embarrassingly apparent - trying to book them doesn't much impact on Glastonbury - a festival with a seemingly endless supply of headliners at it's disposal. i think they'd need some kind of resurgence in popularity, or just a reason to play, before they do it. headlining off the back of their fifty something to-be-forgotten-in-a-year new album would seem rather odd, even if they'd probably nail it

The Roskilde connection is so unfair. I cringe horribly inside whenever I think about their 'surge control measures'.... how the band ever got blamed... how it didn't happen before?!?!

For those who don't remember I've put an image of the barriers inside the spoiler tags, cos i dunno it makes me squeamish anyway

I get Eavis' getting spooked, but that time has long past

I don't mind Pearl Jam but are they really popular enough to headline the main stage at Glastonbury? Their chart positions really do not justify it as they have always performed pretty poorly in the UK. They are a pretty niche band and have no mainstream cross over in the UK at all.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
