I'm still here. What a week.Full update tomorrow but I have to say Lionel Richie played one of the best, moSt uplifting sets I've ever seen here and this has been my second home since 1978. It was every bit as good as it must have looked on TV.

Well said Martin. I don't know if it was because of it being the last day but I found it quite emotional, but in a good way. I expected it to be good but was genuinely bowen away. I think lionel's was truly moved by the occasion as well.

Lionel absolutely nailed it.

It was instantly obvious that he "got it"

From the snazzy photos on the screen with a snippet of hello to his (obviously genuine) reaction to dancing on the ceiling.

It was surprisingly easy to get in down the front - we arrived in time to watch the end of Patti Smith (nice rock and roll moment). I committed the cardinal sin of putting a friend on my shoulders for one song (he claims to have shared eye contact with Lionel, which I hope justifies my decision)

It was telling that he said people had asked him for years when he'd be playing Glastonbury - I assumed he meant people in the music industry; judging by his reaction, he'll be asking some of his friends the same question...

PS Any of you visit Shrinel Richie in Shangri La? Bloody marvellous bar dedicated to the great man - I really hope he visited.

He was brilliant, the crowd was massive and the sun came out for him, what a set, didn't stop dancing and singing all through it

Not one single headliner on Pyramid, the Other, The Park or John Peel all weekend would have been "must see" for me.

Maybe not for you but the headliners for those stages cover Rap/Hip-hop, Dance, Indie, Britpop, Funk, DnB (lite), Pop and old school Rock.

I can't think of a single other festival offering as much breadth as well as depth across music genres, and the names they've booked are hardly unknowns or never-has-beens.

Lionel was one of those performances where both crowd and artists expectations were exceeded. He looked genuinely touched and it inspired a cracking level of showmanship and charm. Whaddaguy etc. "Hello" gets a slagging but it's a fucking epic melody. Glasto-cru did not disappoint.

Also, Van Halen.

I hate to be that guy but what was going on with the kick drum? All we could hear where we were stood was an out of time kick drum over Lionels voice during the first half of the set and it was definitely coming from the Pyramid. Not sure if it was just where we were stood.

Been with my missus over 7 years and she's never seen me cry, well let's just say during Hello she realised I'm not dead inside

Where were you? Strangely, one of the people in our group complained about this, so we moved and they said it improved (as did the volume, considerably). I used to pick my spot to watch based on just how well I could see, but now it seems that I have to take sound quality into consideration too.

in a good way?

honestly mate, that's a very bold statement given yesterday's showing!

(and Adam Lambert, despite his obsessive fans, is not a fucking legend!)

Maybe you're right.  I'd just been watching that bit from Kanye when he did Bohemian Rhapsody and the crowd seemed to really get into it.  They just seem to have a lot of singalong songs.  But I wasn't there at Lionel, perhaps Queen wouldn't top him.

What was it like when he did that song?  I got the impression on the telly that the song went down really well, if not the performance.

Kanye doing Queen?

well i'm biased, cos i hate that song.  but people around where i was weren't paying much attention by that point.  to use a football phrase he'd "lost the dressing room".

if it was parody, i'd give him more credit.  as it was, i thought it was really shit.

He doesn't seem the parody type.  Maybe his sense of humour is just too dry for me.

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
