Madonna, hot topic....

Except she does write her own stuff & can play multiple instruments. She worked her way up in the New York club scene from a backing dancer, to a drummer in a post punk band (The Breakfast club) to a solo performer (she even supported the Smiths on a US date in the early 80's). She sacked the producer of her first studio album because she wasn't happy with the direction of it, that hardly screams manufactured pop artist to me.

I stand corrected

what a peculiar conclusion to have reached.

What conclusion should I have reached?

Clearly you have an issue with Kanye/Beyonce/Madonna fans, as well as Tories/UKIPPERS (that's fine) and deem them in some way unworthy of attendance. You said yourself that you found mingling with them "grotesque" despite there not being any real way to spot them - unless they were performing in which case you'd probably be somewhere else anyway.

I think my conclusion was apt.

I base my opinion of these people on what I have seen and read about the wireless crowd. I prefer not to mix with people like that and dont want glastonbury to end up like that. Do you?

Similarly I prefer not to mix with football fans, having read about and witnessed first-hand their behaviour. Last I heard they were stopping black people getting on trains, or has there been something more recent than that? I cant keep up

Hmmm. Tad bit of tarring going on here no?

Were they not racists who like football? As opposed to simply just football fans.

I know for a fact you have mingled at Glastonbury with football fans and loved it! :P

Yes I will grudgingly admit not all football fans are tits I suppose.

God I hope its not Madonna. I have a horrible feeling its young to be though with the amount of TV appearances she's done recently. Kanye done the same in the run up to his announcement trying to get everyone to like him.

I love that people keep sharing this video with the intended message 'Kany West is an idiot lol!' rather than 'Paparazzi really are awful, aren't they?'

A person can't shamelessly court the press and then turn around and complain when they're outside restaurants waiting for them. You're either in or you're out when it comes to that sort of thing.

Yeh I feel sorry for him there. That must have hurt like hell. Also I am amazed he kept his cool. Fair play to him.

Madonna has never played a UK festival - and, other than Glastonbury, likely won't. Her playing wouldn't turn Glastonbury into anything else - all it would do would be to further single it out as the festival that attracts headliners that other festivals can't.

This a thousand times.

And you think booking Madonna will lead the festival's descent into anarchy? A festival that sold out months in advance before any names were released? I don't recall the festival being overrun by these types after Jay-Z played, or Beyonce for that matter.

There's been a lot of guff written and said about "the spirit of Glastonbury", like I said earlier, I've been close to ten times now and I don't even know what it is. However I'm pretty sure that judging people based solely on the music they enjoy is the polar opposite to what it is.

As for football fans, really? That's the best you've got? Do you know how many hundreds of thousands of people attend football matches every weekend? Yes there some real idiots out there but 99% of them are normal, decent people. You cannot judge an entire culture by the actions of one or two idiots. I regularly go to support my team, but have managed to refrain from racially abusing anyone, starting fights, throwing charis around, etc and neither have any of my friends.

the festival definitely has a higher number of "these types" after Jay z and beyonce. And that number will rise again after this years headline acts.

And at the same time the festival will get just that little bit shitter.

    • It does feel like there's a push back against net zero from both left and right, but especially the right. Probably since Trump I guess, but even before Trump you had the tea party and Sarah Palin thing, but over here the right were on board with the issue of climate change and the need to address it, from Thatcher through to Johnson. That has now changed, first it was the populist right, not it is mainstream, with Badenoch making the two prerequisites for standing for the Tories being against net zero, and for leaving the ECHR. You can be an ex neo-nazi as long as you are against net zero. At least many now seem to accept the climate change is happening and it is caused by us, but they now say well it will be a nice mediterranean climate so lets bin net zero anyway and just have fun f**k all that woke green sh*t. But also the left, with various trade union leaders and blue labour types going on about net zero being bad for the economy and the need for reindustrialisation as we head back to the glory days of the 50s when we all worked down pit or something, ignoring the amount of industries and jobs created by net zero. The greens obviously are still firmly behind the net zero thing, but the party is also full of nimbys who are worried about hedgerows and hedgehogs and votes, and even the leadership have realised that there isn't votes in climate doomerism but there definitely is in bashing billionaires and Israel. I guess the main driver of net zero policies in the country is still Miliband which is probably why everyone seems to be f**king terrified of him, the mad freak and his renewables. He is out of the energy department, but his replacement is hardly a petrolhead, and he isn't in the treasury doing terrifying things like spending money, but he is in the foreign office which is maybe a good place for him because climate change is a global issue and its going to take a global effort.
