Brave Sir Robin
Todd Terje or Angel Olsen for me. If the second half of the Alvvays album was as good as the first then that would be up there too. The La Roux album is fantastic pure pop too. Mardy
Decent enough stuff this year, if nothing amazing, Metronomy, Aphex Twin, Caribou, Wild Beasts, St Vincent, all acceptable bordering on pretty good Probably the only record that really made me sit up and fucking listen was the Sleaford Mods
Space Shanty
Oh man! The venue they were playing looked incredible. They're also one of the best live acts I have EVER seen - that is a missed opportunity man, I'm sorry to say. I'll make up for it lad. One for the 'definites' list this year I think
CaledonianGonzo
Probably the only record that really made me sit up and listen was the Sleaford Mods This too made me sit up and listen - though only to ponder about how cheesed off Mik Artistik must be feeling about having his act pilfered. hoils
Sleaford Mods, Bright Light Bright Light, The 2 Bears and Todd Terje are all in the running but the O'Hooley & Tidow album takes the number one spot. At turns furiously political, beautiful, angry, sad and funny. It's an absolute stonker.

Well him and his band were at the Leeds show the other month so I don't think he's that arsed. Not THAT similar though, really. In fact, hardly at all I don't think! CaledonianGonzo
hahahaha. Not a fan eh CG? I don't know much about them, but the little I've heard sounded like a more agitprop, less whimsical Mikster. I don't think it's deliberate larceny, but there's a definite kinship. 5co77ie
As well as War On Drugs, and Royal Blood, I've liked Midnight Sun - The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, Lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar - Robert Plant, and The Voyager - Jenny Lewis Edited November 28, 2014 by 5co77ie
justanothername
For me it has to be Aaron West & The Roaring Twenties, absolutely love their album and the story it tells. Other contenders for me are The Smith Street Band, Happyness, Gnarwolves, Bobby Barnett, Royal Blood, Every Time I Die and Mongol Horde. I also think La Dispute, DZ Deathrays, Warpaint and The Horrors deserve honourable mentions Edited November 28, 2014 by justanothername
justanothername
Surprised I'm the only person to pick Run The Jewels so far. Honestly, check it out, the more I listen to it the more I think it's one of the best hip hop albums I've ever heard. I'm listening to it now actually but I think it is great, defiantly one of the best hip hop albums this year. Close Your Eyes is so good! Mardy
It's fantastic isn't it??? I love it, especially as I quite like temples but was underwhelmed by the album, the wizards sleeve stuff is fantastic. Absolute revelation. Absolute revelation. Nice one I must check that out tonight. To be honest I saw them at Electric Picnic and was underwhelmed. Expected a far more enegetic set but it was lifeless for a large part I thought. Maybe I expected too much
When Jokers Attack
The War On Drugs - Lost In The Dream This year has been once again brilliant for albums, still a lot of stuff that I haven't got around to hearing yet or just haven't listened to enough to make a full judgement but The War On Drugs for me, was gripped from first listen and I'm still playing it regularly. paulomas
Another vote for The War on Drugs here. Sharon Van Etten, Lykke Li, Banks, Jessie Ware, Caribou, JAWS and SBTRKT have been big ones for me
