Electronica/Dance

So am now up and awake after fabric last night- it was my first time so I didn't really know what to expect, but I knew security would be tight.

The searches were fairly strict in terms of being quite a long procedure but they did not place hands around the boxer line or anything like that.

However, there were a fair number of security guards inside making themselves known by walking around. I'm not sure what the specific reasons were but I did see people getting removed from the room. I was almost removed too for simply looking too fucked but managed to hide away from it.

The music was good, a lot being proper techno! Daniel Avery played in room 2 from 1-3 and was playing some very dark stuff- I would have preferred him to be on later but what I heard of it was good.

Mainly stuck to room 1 where if I remember correctly terry Francis played- pretty good set! And then the closing set was Craig Richards b2b with seth troxler playing from 4-8 am. I feel that the set got better towards the end- there were a fee dodgy mixes and questionable songs being played, but was very enjoyable none the less.

Was much less busier than I expected which was nice. Although it was busy at points, there was still enough room to dance and move about. No queues getting in to toilets and smoking area. Queue to get in was long but moved surprisingly quickly considering they have a new ID scanning system to get to grips with.

Overall, a really good night and I'd say it was pretty well organised. Although it would have been nice if the security weren't swooping around the place

Sorry for this being quite lengthy. Hope some of you find it useful

Would be surprised not to see some of the electronic names announced for BBK playing Glastonbury.

The Black Madonna, Job Jobse, Red Axes and DJ Tennis who played last year and MCDE, Daphni and Dixon who didn't but would be so well received

i say this every year but the fee barrier to the likes of Dixon, MCDE, Daphni I would say makes all of these very unlikely. Id be surprised to see black madonna return for the same reason and also she played the downlow last year.

there just isnt the money to pay them. You will get the likes of midland, eats everything each year because they're british and know the legacy of the festival (and enjoy being there) enough to take a massive pay cut to play. The likes of the above will most likely not.

Going to go well against the grain here...

I fucking hated the place.

I went for the 1st time in years on Boxing day and it was OK. It used to be utterly fantastic though years ago. The mill itself holds some good memories. I used to dj at Unity radio in there when it was a pirate station and later on just an internet station. Had some good times. Every nightclub in Manchester seems to being turned into flats or a Tesco express.

Not for this particular mix.

i'm still trying to get the hang of vinyl beatmatching

Nothing beats mixing with vinyl, once you get it, it's a much more enjoyable experience than doing things digitally - I find it keeps me far more engaged than when I'm mixing with Traktor. Best of luck with the practice

When I started, I got a tip...

Find a tune with a distinctive beat. It doesn't need to be a good one. Start mixing that into every other tune. It will help you hear what you are looking for. Touch the record as little as possible, use the pitch.

Some of the funniest times Ive had were when I got to a house party, couldnt mix and it sounded like a horse falling down the stairs.
