AC/DC Says Lars

Not sure if this has already been posted but it's very sad news regardless

Quote from the bbc:

AC/DC founding member and guitarist Malcolm Young is suffering from dementia, his family has confirmed.

It was announced last week the 61-year-old would not be returning to the rock band after taking a break earlier this year due to an unspecified illness.

"Malcolm is suffering from dementia and the family thanks you for respecting their privacy," his family told People.

Nobody has ever had their own stage at Glastonbury. Why is that necessary? And where would you put it?

When AC/DC did Download they had the following demands

1)Massive fee

2)No other artists to play on any other stage while AC/DC performing

3)Download forbidden to use AC/DC logo in any commercial merchandise or program

4)AC/DC bring their own custom built stage (installation at Download expense)

The demands were outrageous, they ask Eavis any of those 4 then his reply would be 2 words ending with off

Maybe with Malcolm out of the frame (Malcolm was the decision maker/leader of the band) their stance might soften, dunno, hope so

I thought the main reason they had a separate stage at Download was for their stage show? When I saw them at the O2 they had a train explode out the back of the stage and it stayed there spewing smoke out for the whole gig?

Doesn't make then less prickish though for the other demands they are ridiculous!

Also sorry to bear about Malcolm I wouldn't wish what he has on my worst enemy

As part of the deal for them doing Download they wanted to bring their full show, which doesnt seem quite so ridiculous. It was only when their show couldnt be done on the main stage the extra one was announced.

As good as the stage show was, I hope this time they scale it back a bit, which would also allow them to play festivals.

As said before, it is all going to come down to how much they actually want to play Glastonbury. If they do, then they have to realise that demands like these will never be met.

Having said that, it's not like they wouldn't be able to customise the pyramid stage in some way. The stage is a decent enough size to do a lot with plus we seem to be getting a new installation on the top of the pyramid each year now. They could have a say in the next installation - like the phoenix coming to life during the Stones. Stick a couple of cannons up there and they'll be happy!

Their show last time was really on a massive scale, I can't see it being possible on the pyramid. They couldnt manage it at download as they apparently needed days to set it up and to take it down. Like you said, it comes down to how much (if at all) they want to play glasto and if theyre willing to do a scaled back show.

is it the same manager as Metallica?

This has certainly been reported, but I've not seen any official confirmation anywhere.

That said, given how tight-lipped AC/DC usually are I wouldn't necessarily expect any official statement on the matter either.

If Peter Mensch is back at the wheel then.....it might be them that Michael was talking about back in late June.

They just need the following

Backline of huge Marshall amps

1 Bell

2 Cannons

Sorted

If Peter Mensch is back at the wheel then.....it might be them that Michael was talking about back in late June.

I read some stuff on Mensch the other day, trying to get to the bottom of things. I can't remember what and where now, tho some of what I read was his wiki page.

While it doesn't explicitly say he's now their manager/representative, the words I read do suggest - perhaps - that he is. This is how...

He was firstly their manager when he was working for someone else, and it was his recruitment of AC/DC that gave him his big break. When he left that firm to start his own, he left AC/DC behind at that firm.

However, it says that his own firm has represented or does now represent AC/DC (it wasn't clear which).

Because there was nothing there that said "... and later on he snaffled AC/DC back to his management at his own firm but later on they left him again", it left me to conclude that he's currently in charge of them.

Not really just sounds like something cool to do , and they always tend to ask for more then they need? You know like the BBC audience members, to counter act the no shows.

You do know that every major long haul airline over books every flight by around 10-15 seats for no shows. Could cause a right ball ache

They're not on the roster on the QPrime homepage and that's been updated since August so if he is representing them then it probably isn't under that banner somehow.

His missus did a documentary/interview with Brian Johnson last year. Its on Sky Arts the odd time.

for everbody saying ac/dc were pricks at download for the fans we got an amazing experience

mammoth runaway extended so far into the crowd

train exploding through the stage

giant fucking bell Brian swang from

great sound

huge inflatable Rosie straddling the train

enormous flashing devil horns on top of the stage

massive screens

a podium that raised about 50 foot with angus on top going sick with his guitar

CANNONS

enough pyro , fireworks and confetti to rival arcadia

and SUNSHINE

Download is run by Livenation they have no charitable interests like Glastonbury so who cares , i would take issue if they made silly demands at Glasto but if they do Eavis will just say no thanks there are plenty of others who want to do it. Download needed AC/DC so were willing to do those things

Guy told me today that Guns and Roses, Slipknot and Biffy are doing download

when I asked about AC/DC and the rumours floating about, he said that they aren't doing download because they are doing Glastonbury.

Matt, you don't half hear a lot of stuff.

Has any of it ever actually been right? :P

    • I really don't think they would put Olivia Rodrigo on Occident stage. If it was her, they would put her in earlier Mordor slot and move Big Thief or Little Simz to Occident.   Fontaines DC are more probable, but don't really match the hype. However, again, if the hype was real, the artist would end up in Mordor.   That being said, I would love to see Fontaines DC tonight.
    • After all the good advice on here I had a nice visit to the site earlier in the week.    Walked down from Pilton village to Hitchen Hill and down the footpath to the Wood by Woodies.    Really strange seeing the site empty of 100,000 people. There is far more hedges and woodland on the site than you remember when the festival is on. Can see the stone circle and some structures still up on site. And looks like Worthy View has some camping going on there during the summer too.   Lots was fenced off with electric fencing to help wth the cattle grazing. Is really amazing how they set up the site as its hard enough accessing the area by car and foot nevermind all the kit needed to set the festival up. As others said you can't walk the whole site but nice to see the site again after a few years away   Pilton is also a lovely village with a nice village hall shop and post office attached, and got to speak to some locals who told me a few tales of past festivals down the years. One house for sale there would be lovely to live in - if only I had £2 million going spare
    • 6music just shared a video of all of Fontaines DC singing along to the Cure last night. It'll be them. Booooo    Olivia might get up for I Love You though...
    • Proper loser behaviour wearing a tee like that. Me and my mate play a game every year called ‘Boomer Tees’ and there’s some gems every time.
