I'd like to see The XX headline the pyramid

Come back in 4/5 years then and you might be in luck

Not sure it'll be that long. If the 3rd album is a success (and released in late 2015/early 2016), can see them headlining in 2016 or 2017. Headlined Other on the back of 2 albums and they're a 'glastonbury band'.

nah honestly i don't see the next album having quite the hype behind it that Coexist did. can see them possibly subbing the Pyramid with the next album, but reckon the hype will die before they reach headliner level - reckon they're definitely in line to headline Bestival soon though (thought it'd be this year but without a new album announced it's unlikely)

I think the xx have kinda died to be honest - those who were fans have grown up now, I imagine if they came back and tried to be big with the yoofs they get some 'who's?'

Coexist wasn't strong enough imo either - but a great band nonetheless

Elaborate on the grown up part please....

You don't have waffle some piffle sometimes Matt, it's not as if their a decades old band, they'd still be entirely relevant and their fans, who were hardly a young audience at the time of XX, will still be very interested

Still reckon an XX comeback would be huge. Not headliners, but up there on the big stages.

oh yeah i don't think they're gonna fall down the lineups - reckon there's a decent chance they could/should sub Pyramid next time round! but headlining Pyramid seems like a way off

I'd say they'l follow the Massive Attack, Chemical Brothers, Portishead ish route and just occasionally pop up headlining the other stage.

Coexist had the potential to boost them to headliners but I feel it just didn't pack enough punch.

Don't know about you but I was going crazy over them when I was 13/14

I just feel now that I know bands who do what they did better? If you get me? But when I was freshly a teenager they were one of the forefronts when the inevtiable 'I love indie' stage starts.

yeah that part puzzled me. not like they're a teeny bop band. i still very much enjoy their music now - i just feel the initial hype has worn off / was dispelled by Coexist being pretty downbeat

Exactly, there was no relevance or substance to the grown out of it statement what so ever. In fact I would say its a sound and type of music you grow into, in no way is it music a kid would be absorbed by.

cant argue that the hype is off at the mo but think it would ramp right back up with a new album. coexist was, on the whole well received

That set at Bestival was brilliant, don't think I've ever seen the field so packed, apart for maybe Stevie Wonder

No chance half way back for the XX was quite spread out. Elton was the most packed I've seen people had to climb on the bars.

    • A question has crossed my (questionable) mind;   Has the size of the Green Fields remained the same as other areas have expanded / been added on to, since say, 2014 (the last time that I attended)? Are they 'lost' within, or well attended?    That's actually two questions. The second one just slipped in at the end by taking advantage of my lack of means to stop it.
    • I'd say the same about Kylie.    Annie would be awesome, Duran not so much, and on the issue of them wanting a beanie slot, that probably rules out a fair few others who I think would fit the bill very well... and are legitimately more entitled to a headline, and/or too expensive.   Was just about to suggest Chaka Khan, but see @Gnomicide has beat me to it!    What about someone like Bryan Ferry?
    • It's certainly gone more that way, but then they went completely in the opposite direction and had Cat Stevens.
    • Chaka can, or Chaka can't?
    • TVOD are playing Blue Basement in London 2/9 with a complete EOTR/Psych Fest shaped hole before their next gig in Lyon on 8/9. Well received in the Big Top last year, reckon they're nailed on for a secret set in the Tipi.
