Metallica 2014

Thing is there will be plenty of Metallica fans there as well, metal fans like me who appreciate a wide variety of music as well so go to glasto and lots of people who may even have waned but have been fans back in the past of the band, youll be able to tell the fans of the band from the rest anyway as we`ll be at the front going nuts while the rest are still trying to work out if they give it a plus or minus haha

I'm a lot like you, i'm a big Metallica fan, this will be my 8th big festival and Metallica have always eluded me, been wanting to see them for years now! I'm a fan of other mainstream metal, like Bring Me The Horizon, Avenged Sevenfold and those kind of bands, but metal is by no means my favourite genre.

Some of the other acts that I am really looking forward to this year are Chvrhces, Bonobo, Lana Del Rey, Haim and Bombay Bicycle Club. They are all pretty different to Metallica!

I think the massive misconception people are making is that because Metallica are considered 'Heavy', they will be some sort of screaming death metal band that nobody will enjoy and are not worth seeing at all. But they aren't gonna come out and dive straight into 'Creeping Death' are they? Lars and co are not that stupid.

They would obviously be a terrible fit for somewhere like V Festival, but Glastonbury is full of people like all of us on this forum that have a very open mind to music. I know a couple of girls that are going to Glasto this year that are not into metal whatsoever but will give them a chance because they have decent tastes in music and they recognise that Metallica are a legendary act. A couple of my friend's Dads that are going are both quite into Led Zep and classic rock bands, and they really like some of Metallica's older stuff.

Overall I think they are a fantastic booking and if they get their setlist right on the night, they could go out there and win over a lot of new fans

While predicting what Metallica's setlist will look like is quite hard as they have been changing what they open up with in the last few years quite frequently, my prediction of setlist is this:

I've left the new song in as they're gunna be playing it all summer, but I'm not sure they definitely will as the chances of the song ending up on the next album will probably be slim. So I wouldn't be too surprised if they did drop it for Glastonbury and played maybe a slightly more known song. I've also been a bit optimistic about Orion being in the setlist, but I think it would be an amazing moment to hear it at Glastonbury.

The crowd will be fine, don't get in a lather about it. And I have to agree about the Kasabian crowd. Seen them a few times and, like Oasis, they do have a knack of filling a crowd with coked-up people determined to be arseholes.

The best, friendliest and most accommodating festival crowd I have been part of was Sonisphere. All lovely people, trad metal T-shirts ir not!

I kinda agree and add not much of a fan I was bored watching a live set of those on youtube a couple of weeks ago. However listening to the albums more I the car now I must confess I'm developing quite a soft spot for them and this song is one of their mammy classics.
