Don't forget, there won't be thousands and thousands of metalhead Metallica fans descending on Glastonbury just to mosh at the front to Metallica. It's the same Glastonbury crowd as it always has been but Metallica happen to be playing.

Not seen a moshpit forming before at Glastonbury so would be shocked if one started this year.

Bit like saying 50 cent is playing so we will all get shot.

It will be..Just find a spot in the crowd were you have a good view and feel comfortable...if you wanna get more involved in the crowd get nearer the front or if not just hang back... simples

Metallica are far from stupid. They aren't going to come on and bash out a bunch of their heaviest material as a kind of F**K You to all who turned up. Off the top of my head, they could churn out: Wherever I may Roam (not really any heavier than RATM who many would love to see on the bill), Fuel (basically a blues rock song, no different to what The Black Keys will play on Sunday), Until it Sleeps (pretty much a Pop song), the ballads (One, Fade to Black, Sanitarium, Nothing else Matters...all easy entry points for "non-metal" fans), Orion (a masterpiece), Master of Puppets (which went down rather well when Pendulum used it as an intro, rather than being greeted with the terrified faces Dom Lawson suggested) and Enter Sandman (which most in the crowd will have heard at some point). That's half a set right there without much in the way of trash metal in sight (well, maybe MOP a bit)...plus, given Glastonbury's demographic, there'll be many there who were teenagers when Metallica were in their prime (myself included), so probably dipped into their music at some point. I expect them to be fantastic...

in the scheme of Metallica's earlier material One is quite ballad-ish, yeah. obviously gets heavy as fuck towards the end but for the most part it's quite slow and balladesque

Prediction : the crowd for Kasabian will be far more dickhead-heavy than Metallica. Their set in 2009 was like a clarion call for every arsehole on site to congregate.

That's exactly what I was saying earlier, metal/rock crowds are pretty good normally, get way worse crowds for flavour of the month Radio 1/NME bands.

. Even when other rockier bands have been on, I've only ever seen a little movement. This cannot be different for one band, Dave (and it won't). There may be a bit of jumping, but full on moshpits - can't see it.

I dunno, I got to the front for Muse in 2010 and once some people fucked off and gave us all room to breathe the last few songs were pretty mental. I had a pit right behind, just remember my back feeling like everyone in the field had elbowed me

155 pages in, my 1st post on here...

while i was holding out hope that Prince was it, i'm excited to see a bit of Metalllica. not my cup of tea but i respect them completely and look forward to a good 40 mins of them, likely the only time I'll see them...

Tonight....I'm skipping out on seeing Mogwai out of the expectation that I should be able to go from my 40 mins of Metallica to see most, if not just about all, of Mogwai up on the Park.

Normally have the up-most respect for dom lawson but he really doesn't speak for metal fans with that article, think hes just bitter he doesn't have a ticket lol. listen im a metal fan first and foremost but Im also open minded when it comes to music and having resisted for a long time last year being my first glasto I know the magic of this festival. Im just stoked that not only do I get to go to glasto but one of my favorite bands of my favorite genre will be headlining so dom if you happen to read this forum, please shut the fuck up with the `they sold out` crap it was boring enough when the black album came out, metallica doing something unexpected has been a staple of there career what kind of fan is this guy if he doesnt realize that?

I mean its like the people saying `oh this wont be a metallica crowd they wont know what to do to make the crowd react as there not all metallica fans etc.

BOLLOCKS! this is the same band who played in front of the kind of people who go to see classical music (when they played with the San Francisco symphony in front of a mixed audience of Metallica fans and orchestra buffs) and pulled it off what the fuck makes you think they cant play to any crowd they like and make an impression thats what being a world class band is about!

Some beautiful images of Glastonbury on the rolling stones show on BBC 4 , they were all saying how much they enjoyed playing . let's face it there was no way they were gonna top them as headliners.
