From Continental Drifts re Shangri La:

Once again were running Shangri- La , this eternal madness of 1000`s of artists performing for not very much to an audience more “up for it “ then Rio Carnival continues. This year we bring you over 14 micro venues, alongside acts so big we aren’t even allowed to say who, nestled next to the latest festival giants and acts from beyond the Mainstream .

Some of the highlights for us anyway include

Turtle Island Band from Japan

A Guy Called Gerald

Rudimental

and a whole Symphony of Glastonbury Bird Recordings to name a tiny few

Awesome! Saw A Guy Called Gerald a few months back and he was great.

Can you imagine them on the Pyramid??!?! The Deckchair people would be wondering where the soreing choruses are and bamboozled at all the energy on display. I could only imagine how many jugs of pimms would be spilt, totes there for Shangri-la always wanted to see them live as they are considered one of those 'CULT JAPANESE BANDS YOU NEED TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE' kind of thing.

-Edit- They ARE playing the Pyramid as well, that'll be a barrel of laughs in the morning :/ When you try to dance only to be denied by a guardian reading w*nker.

Just worth noting, before you get your hopes up, there appears to be two bands called 'Turtle Island'. The Japanese band you're talking about, and a different one from Ohio. According to someone on their Facebook, it's the latter that are playing.

Continental Drifts (ie Shangri La) themselves say "Turtle Island Band from Japan". I think I first saw something about them playing months back from a Japanese Twitter account too. And here's Yahoo Japan reporting it. I strongly suspect it's the users posting on their Facebook who've got it wrong.

I posted a video of the japan turtle island and Shangri-la retweeted me, they also went (from Japan) in the line up announcement.

I'd be gutted if we just get another Psyc revival band.

In that case, great news. They sound up my street, so I'll be checking them out.

EDIT: The Ohio 'Turtle Island' have also retweeted a tweet about them playing. They could've just tweeted someones mistake for a laugh, but thought I'd put it out there. https://twitter.com/_turtle_island

Think that was Asakusa Jinta. The Miniscule of Sound dudes brought em over from Fuji Rocks.

http://viewinggum.wordpress.com/2013/06/18/glastonbury-2013-picks-you-might-have-missed/

That was them, we were there for the sound check, they played 4 songs to a dancing field before getting hauled off.

So Arcadias gonna be on a lot longer this year, good stuff :)

how is that going to work? it's next to the Park, right, will there not be sound bleed issues? Park has strummy strummy bedwetter acoustic feyness wafting about (actually my preferred genre as it goes), and right next to it will be the whump whump whump of Arcadia?

    • I've come across a few this weekend saying Deftones aren't big enough for Download.   I would recommend b&b hotel hbf the night before....cheap, comfortable and very decent. Within 10 minutes from the station and a tram stop outside to jump on...all travel is free during the festival time as well with a kombi. Lidl is very good and cheap I can't lie....€6 for a chair with carey handle, €20 with a bag too...you can work that out yourself.   If you camp, get up at 5am and go to the queue....literally don't question it as now I know.     The travel wise part is easy when you get the hang of it and I've never had an easier exit from a festival today tbh. We were camped in the turn left section but past the registration and to get water you have to come right out.   Opening up an exit through he camp at least by Friday morning when everyobe is there would be much better but you csnt walk through general if you're green and sonon.   I think the issue for me probably too is I have never taken like a mutliple litre water too, I've always done a 6 pack water from like poundland lol but you definitely need it. I had one shower that was cold lol   Talking of getting into the front, Volbeat was the only easy one, for Maiden and especially Linkin Park if you weren't in the queue for it by at least the last quarter ot Architects you had no hope....it was shocking. I do like orbit to sit down. I had to decide to sack off Within Temptation too or no chance.   Second stage biggest gripe is the faff of walking all the way round when VIP or whatever it is literally get access to each bit. I did read tbh before going people though RIP/Ring was turning too much the wrong way.   Also as a side note, caught some of Limp Bizkit last night too and they are not headliner but any distance at all. Yes they pull a crowd...they would do with LP finished but on the grand scale its a super weak booking. Stop, start for video recordings all the way through a headline set?, 1hr 15 minutes and you can't play for that time. I'm so glad they were not chosen to headline main.   On another thing, if RIP played it right they'll get GC and Avril to sub/second stage headline on the Blink day.   Toilets and cleanliness is a big plus I will say that.
    • Any of the likes of Keo, Basht. and Cardinals could all fit in here.  Although they’re the sort of bands that could fit many of the stages at Glastonbury
    • Glasto loves a come back act - how about the Rapture?
    • Yeah mentioned in the park thread but feel more Woodsies to me
