Lineup 2015

Recommended Posts

1D would be a disaster as they don't really want all their tickets to go to under 15's, if they could go as they'd have to go with parents.

Would be excellent for day tickets which is the fests biggest earner.

Plus parents would get shit faced buying booze if they knew they had to stand through 1D.

You've not heard of 5ive? You'd probably like them.

Jack White is from one of the biggest bands of the 00's so I don't see it as odd really. He's had plenty of R1 play over the years.

I'll look them up.

If they ever find themselves struggling to get a major ticket seller though, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to book 1D to flog loads of day tickets and a fair amount of weekends too.

I guess, I just found it odd because the tent looked dead throughout the whole thing apart from Seven Nation Army right at the end. He clearly wasn't an act anyone there really knew bar the most famous of songs from TWS.

Can anyone tell me the difference in size of:

TitP & V

vs R&L's arenas?

Just wondered why an open air second stage has never been used to warrant booking bigger or more established acts, replacing or coexisting with the NME tent?

I've not been in 4 years but V is marginally bigger than R&L in sheer square footing

I don't reckon they're that similar, nevertheless I don't think it's impossible that a boyband could headline festivals but the likes of Take That and One Direction are the only ones big enough and would probably rather play their own tours than grab a fee off of V Festival or something. Take That's tour a few years ago made the band like £10m each after tax - they'd only receive a fraction of that for a festival, and One Direction have done or are doing a stadium tour that will be far more lucrative than a fest appearance. Basically what I'm saying is the ones big enough don't need to do it/would command a much higher fee.

I know there's licence laws but why no open air second stage then?

License laws.

More stages than V (so need to consider sound bleed more).

History/tradition.

I heard the legacy of Reading Festival had been destroyed.

Is there just one open air stage at Reading then? I haven't yet been

Just the one large one; there are one or two tiny open air stages.

    • some point this week the insta post says
    • I guess we should also not underestimate that the Slowdive sound person is probably not quite used to open-air daytime performances in such a large, open area. 🙂 I imagine it's very different from mixing the sound in a tent. Plus, even though I was openminded about it at first - you never know how things might sound or work out in a different setting if you don't try - I just don't think their sound is very suited for this kind of setting, it really benefits from darkness and a nice light show and all that. Still, nice that they got to give it a try.
    • i agree, was really disappointed by the Slowdive sound (we were fairly close to the podium) also if you consider that for all other main stage acts i saw they got it perfectly right.
    • Thanks man for sharing your thoughts. I would say i generally agree with you and do agree people close to the podium should position themselves further back if they want to have full conversations and apparently are not interested in the music; to fair it is mind boggling these people are even there as chatting gets so much easier in the back field. That said i did not really have the same experience as you, front rows for example at MBV, Men I trust, Big Thief, NewDad, Slowdive, where really into the music.    yes i BBK is really high on our list but we just realized it is next year 25 years of Primavera so perhaps we do one more.
    • When does the Thursday lineup get announced? I see they had Moonchild Sanelly and Young Knives last year, would be cool to get something along those lines again.
