Actually I only mentioned the new headliner thing because every time I predict R&L without one we get a massive boring debate about how there'll definitely be one and whether The Prodigy would count as one; not because I believe in patterns.

Makes perfect sense.

Wasn't mrtourette referring to the new headliner for Download? Cos that was borne out of something Copping said, but could easily be twisted into 'never headlined before' like the thing with Eavis last year.

R+L having a new headliner is a pattern I believe in. It tempers peoples' expectations too.

Mumford And sons, courteeners and the vaccines added.

I know they aren't so much popuarl on here but if reading got Mumfords that would be a pretty good booking. Seeing as they haven't done much since 2013 in the UK and there is hype for them to come back.

Would have thought if they are returning both mumford and vaccines are quite likely,

Kasabian maybe too soon but then paramore played same year they last played,

Courteeners surely too soon and will be at V instead I would've thought unless they impressed this year and are given a high main stage slot

Vaccines, Linkin Park, Mumford and Sons seems like a fairly standard, and likely, set of headliners to me.

I was gonna say how shocking that would be, but I can't even think of any better plausible alternatives. At least 2 of them will have been away for a while, and Linkin Park could have a potentially decent undercard to make looking at that day less abysmal.

shit didn't even think of this

seems likely to me as well. It appears weak, but thinking about it Mumfords are probably the biggest draw.

Linkin Park are actually a pretty smart booking; they're a crossover act liked by a lot of casual music fans who haven't play a non hard rock/metal-orientated festival since '03

I saw a lot of people on social media excited by the announcement of Linkin Park doing Hybrid Theory at Download this year, however none of them actually went because they were all very far away from Download's demo; I think Linkin Park at R&L would attract a lot of people

Once it settled in, I felt the same too.

I personally have no interest - but they haven't played since 2003 and have done a lot since.

The fact they've kept on going is pretty admirable

Me neither but it looks like a reading trio

Mumford and Sons would be massive for reading, simply because they haven't played a festival since Glastonbury.

Saying "it looks a Reading trio" doesn't carry much stock with the multitude of predictions fired out around here - you posted a lineup with Paolo Nutini subbing Coldplay once and said "it looks like a Reading lineup".

Mumford and Sons haven't been booked since they packed out the NME tent and that's probably because R+L isn't their sort of place anymore. Linkin Park are long past relevant but it probably would work. The Vaccines aren't big enough to headline, and I wouldn't mind seeing them headline. They'd need to have put something out in the next couple of months and probably do an arena tour, and they haven't even started recording yet I don't think.

Or maybe because after their massive shoot in popularity they chose Glastonbury and massive US tours/festivals over R&L.

Majority said that this year.

I think the majority said 'shit but it'll sell'.

Er, did they? 2011 and 2012 would have been prime for R+L to throw cash at them to play high up. They didn't. I'm assuming that's because people at R+L's mums started listening to them. I'm confident it'd go down like a bag of shit if they headlined R+L, whereas they'd fit in fine at V and IOW.
