i think matt42 and matt87 need to have a good old fashioned gunslinging showdown at dawn in the centre of the stone circle next time they're both there - this fest aint big enough for the both of us etc

my money's on matt87 - over twice as big a number, or maybe i should root for the underdog

Not the greatest 3 headliners, but would see DM and FM.

However, good for 2 reasons IMO :-

1) I can't see anyone buying tickets just to see one of these bands, in the way that U2, Springsteen, Muse, Stones or Coldplay fans would. So demand for tickets should not be as over-the-top as it has been in the recent few years.

2) The site won't be full of Kasabian & Stone Roses fans

From one angle I agree, but then again Elbow also work as a 'new' band - their bigger success has (as an example) come in the same years as Arctic Monkeys, and as a band that's not yet headlined a major festival they by-default become sort-of new.

I think the headliners aren't the be all and end all, so before someone bites my head off for what I'm about to say - I'm still going to try for tickets, I'm still going to love every second and I'm still going to see some incredible bands!

Elbow I'd like to see out of curiousity and ditto Fleetwood Mac. I don't think I know any of Depeche Mode though. I'm 21, I was born in 1992 and I barely know any Stones songs let alone DM. However some of my favourite bands are Pulp, Specials, Madness etc, so I'm not completely obsessed with newer music!

Now with that being said, I feel like there is a real lack of appeal for people my age in the headliners. They are all bands that will appeal to older festival go-ers. Admittedly Glastonbury is an older festival but a lot of young people do go, especially university students. These 3 headliners seem very safe and I can imagine if confirmed and announced before the tickets go on sale, will put off a lot of people from my generation.

Me too really! Depeche Mode and fleetwood mac- two bands I have loved in the past but never got round to seeing. Coming round to the idea of elbow too. Certainly put the kids off if these proposed headliners are confirmed before t-day.

Think I'll go and listen to 101 in (black) celebration! :)

They have 150,000 odd tickets to sell, they cant get complacent and start losing money. The jayz year almost went tits up, reading and leeds has stopped selling out, V has stopped selling out.

Like it or lump it the masses have to be appeased as they effectively subsidise the smaller more niche things that people love at glasto

It will be interesting to see if V/Reading etc begin to up their game a bit soon by offering more than just bands. I don't expect them ever to compete with Glastonbury but if they want to sell out they'd be wise to start looking at other things to add to their festival other than just big name bands.

I think the hype of this year will mean tickets will still fly in October. I went with University friends, and all my friends from sixth form who watched on tele are dead set on trying in October now. I'm pretty sure anyone who watched the footage and wished they were there will be trying, as well as everyone who went this year and those that missed out.

This (the bit in bold) is something that continually baffles and infuriates me. Why can't people just listen to the bands? It takes all of a few minutes to get their singles up on wikipedia then search for them on youtube/spotify. If they are booked to headline Glastonbury, they must have written some good music. Give them a chance! It's almost as if people are saying "well if I haven't heard them already, why should I give it a go now?"

People moaned about the 2009 pyramid headliners being too old - but then the other stage headliners were Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand & The Prodigy. The bookers aren't so stupid as to completely ignore the needs of what makes up one of the biggest demographics of the festival.

My gut feeling is that they won't get all 3 of them. Elbow is nailed on, I reckon DM will do it, but it'll be wobbly if Reading weigh in with a big offer. FM, though, will fall by the wayside.

I think there is a general idea that headliners on the biggest stage are supposed to be pretty well known and thus off the top of your head you should be able to name a few of the big tunes. I'm not sure thats true with Depeche Mode or Fleetwood Mac for the vast majority of people born in the 1990s.

My favorite bands the arctics so to some people on here i'd probably be classed as a teeny bopper, but surely everyone knows 'personal jesus' and 'just can't get enough'?

Thank you!

We're not all middled aged ;-) That's like expecting someone born in the noughties to know who the Rolling Stones are just because. I don't listen to the Beatles either, I'm guessing that'd be an issue too?

If I ame lulcky enough to get tickets next year and they are the 3 headliners then i'll be dissappointed. I'd watch Elbow but the other 2 do not interest me at all.

But, thats what the other stages are for!! I can see The Prodigy being back next year, new album and only played 1 uk festival last yr and this yr (i think) , so that would probably be one of the other stage headliners.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
