If Depeche Mode really are headlining then I will definitely give them a listen.

I was joking with the middle aged comment, I just hate the fact that everyone HAS to like a band just because they are said band. I absolutely love Queen and my friend hates them enough to leave the room if they play. I don't understand why, but I don't give her shit for it. Not everyone can like the same music, people can't accept that.

This line up of headliners is aimed at an older generation though. I'm sure there will be younger people that are my generation going for this line up but it's going to appeal to a higher age mostly.

And you're just assuming that I wont make a point of listening to Depeche Mode if they are headlining. Bravo on making such a ridiculous assumption. I'll have you know that for weeks before the festival this year, I relentlessly played Rolling Stones songs to see if I recognised any, if I liked any etc. I also said somewhere either on this thread or a different thread that I'm going to buy an Elbow CD as I'm interested in seeing them headline but I don't know any of their stuff except one song.

You definitely do. Even without consciously listening to them and actively listening to their entire back catalogue, you will know Just Can't Get Enough/Personal Jesus.

Hmmm, I think you might be surprised.

Anything pre-94 stands a chance of being out of range of the ears of today's youngsters, because of how radio 1 changed.

I was shocked at Bestival a few years ago at just how many people there knew nothing of Chic ... these groups of youngsters would rock up to the stage, stand around and look bewildered for a bit, and then go off again - and it was clearly all unfamiliar to them.

After a few years of getting some absolute mega stars headlining, I reckon this is a quality choice by the Eavii, the place would be filled by people who are there because they love Glastonbury, not because they want to tick off a box on the bucket list. 2014 will be another classic year...

Nobody's saying you have to like The Stones or The Beatles etc. Just as 2 of the most (if not the most) critically acclaimed and popular groups of all time you should probably have at least given them a try already if you love music.

I'm not that excited about any of the headliners but I have Seldom Seen Kid, Rumours and a Depeche Mode Greatest Hits in my CD collection. I've tried because they're big names, they're all decent.

I'm not complaining about the headliners, I already said I'll still be going, I'm just saying that people my age might be put off as this is aimed at an older generation.

Like I said, I don't know Depeche Mode, maybe I know one or two songs without realising that I do, but it wont stop me going because they might be headlining. If it means less younger people trying on ticket sale day then I'm happy :beach:

Not mad on Depeche Mode.

Elbow is 3 years too late - should have headlined in 2011 (ie the kind of KOL / Muse2004 Glasto 'promotion' slot).

Fleetwood Mac would be good - in my youth I saw them as a bit of a joke band, but have recently educated myself to this! They certainly have the hits.

I just think some people take some kind of personal offence when I say I don't like the Stones or the Beatles much. I never say they're bad, I just can't get in to them. It's good to be different sometimes!

And yeah I will listen to DM if they are headlining, I'll get them up on Youtube or something. Doesn't mean I'll end up liking them, but maybe I will. I'm open to that. :)

My point is that right now Glastonbury is so incredibly cool that they can book whoever they want to be headliners and there will be plenty of demand for tickets. (Obviously that isn't a permanent state of affairs - look at 2008).

So they can book whoever they think will put on a great show, not who will sell the most tickets. The tickets will be sold, and people that don't know the bands will either google them and like plenty of their songs, google them and find out they hate them, or go watch something they do like.

We shouldn't be discussing the effect on ticket sales; we should be discussing will these three acts put on brilliant, memorable performances?

Based on Elbow's reception in 2011, I'd say it could be magical, although like other bands making the step up, I'm worried they don't quite have enough hits. Maybe that won't be a problem, or maybe they will have some on their next album.

The other two, I'll have to have a think about.

I would definitely give DM a watch, but I'd be hoping for a good Other headliner for the other two, sigur ros clashing with Elbow would be good.

Does anyone know the chances of Portishead being booked again? Missed them this year for chic and it looks incredible

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
