To clarify before someone gets their knickers in a twist, that's not me saying that metal fans aren't friendly and that, I'm saying that generally the atmosphere at those kind of gigs aren't really suitable for all ages. Mosh pits and head banging aren't for everyone and Glastonbury is a festival that prides itself on being welcoming to anyone of any age etc and ability.

Why does the suggestion of a couple more heavier acts always end up with "LULS Metal go to download"...its bollocks, Glasto has a history of heavier acts anyway and something different for Glastonbury would be fantastic. Not asking for it to overtake but a couple more wouldn't go a miss. (and oh one of the best/friendliest crowds I was in all weekend was Smashing Pumkins..so yes Glastonbury would still be welcoming as ever...)

It comes to something when you'd happily head down to Ladbrokes and put your life savings on what he's going to post in a thread like this. As soon as this thread started I thought of him and fucking Metallica.

Plus I saw more heavy metal t-shirts (apart from Rolling Stones t-shirts) than any other genre.

that's because band t-shirts have always been a much bigger/more normal thing in the rock/metal scene than other scenes.

It would be foolish to use that as any indicator for what proportion have a high preference for rock/metal. It's only an indicator of how many rock/metal t-shirts are sold against t-shirts for other genres.

After all, I wore t-shirts all weekend, and not one of them was a band t-shirt - but that doesn't mean I don't like bands.

I've been to Pukkelpop in Belgium a couple of times and they (along with lots of other European festivals tbf) seem to be able to mix the heavier bands into the line-up without incident. I wouldn't like to see Glastonbury go down the "metal day" type route though, but a couple of big heavier acts across the weekend would be great. I thought Slash went down a storm, as did QOTSA.

I still think we'll get Fleetwood Mac next year, possibly Radiohead, maybe The Cure if they are still on the road, would like something out of the ordinary too, AC/DC would probably go over well too (but I hear they are diva's regarding merch' billing etc).

I saw someone chuck a West Holts headliner in earlier too, so I'd like to see the Funk of the last two festivals continue and Chaka Khan headline one night.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
