Download 2014

When you look at the way the bands fall on the poster that I did now, I really don't think its a bad line up, plus you still have 3rd from top of main stage on Friday and Saturday to announce and Sunday second stage headliners.

I loved 2011, how it was quieter, 2012 was TOO busy and I didn't go last year.

Im defo going this year, theres a hell of a lot I would see now. Yesterday added a lot for me. Killswitch on European exclusive is a pretty big deal, wonder how they managed that, think they'll have the same deal with Lamb of God too.

I sorted my ticket in the early bird, I'm more than happy with the line up, I get that it's not as strong as in previous years but there will be plenty to occupy me and I'd go regardless. Plenty of mates I've met over the years who I only see at download who think the same.

Could all you old farts and wobbly lippers all just send your good looking female friends along this year then please. There's gonna be no queues at the bogs and I'll look after them real good. Just after I've gotten over my depression that is, all the clashes I reckon I'm gonna have is doing my swede in :)
Seriously I think it's a great line up so far. It's one huge band off being legendary but I can live with that. I'm going to Soni too but if I had to pick just one of them this year then it would be Download.

I'm warming to it each time I have a look at the line up and research some of the bands. Granted first look wouldn't appeal to some, me included, but that's what makes a festival, finding new acts that you wouldn't because you've been watching the "big names"

It goes back to the limited pool of headliners regarded as the biggest names in rock and metal. Once you come away from metallica, maiden, slipknot, ac/dc and Sabbath you need to start giving bands like avenged the chance.

This years not as strong as last but I can easily pick out 15 to 20 bands I fancy seeing none of whom are the headliners, that to me represents good value even at 200 quid

So who else from the realms of guaranteed ticket sellers was available this year.

Also a fair number of my mates who've bought tickets have done so on the strength of either aerosmith or linkin park and perceive A7X as the weak link so it is all relative really

200 quid is a lot of cash to part with if, like in our case, there's only a handful of bands that stand out. We'll probably also wait for the rest of the line up and then go for a day, if the weather's okay.

It would take a lot to tempt me to Download (ie Tool headlining) but this year looks particularly poor. The Friday second stage run is good but the rest looks like a bunch of fall-back options and desperation bookings. Which I guess sometimes you have to utilise when you're a niche festival with a major competitor making a comeback splash.

I think a lot of people at Download are just getting fatigued with the fact its the same bands as the past few years in a different order or on different stages. This is only my 4th Download and yet all the high slots are filled by bands who played recently, except Fall Out Boy and Status Quo (lol). The lower stages are a fairly similiar story too - I need to check out a lot of the new bands though so should probably reserve a bit of judgement.

I guess it all comes down to the limited pool of rock bands etc but it still feels like they keep missing out on big rock bands year on year who could help keep the festival feel a bit more fresh.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
