Johnny Marr

There's no way ever they should get back together, as much as it pains me to say.

This has been my opinion for years but something about seeing Marr play those songs so brilliantly has made me question it.

I do agree that the best thing would be to let the Smiths legacy stand alone, untouched... But I wouldn't mind "Morrissey & Marr" doing a tour, similar to how Page & Plant did in the 90's.

I just wish Moz would get a better band, I've been saying that for years. He's lucky in that his voice has kept both its strength & character & yet parts of his performances are let down by the musicians he chooses. Imagine Moz singing & Marr playing guitar/backing vocals, I shudder at how good they could be, they'd certainly show the Stone Roses a thing or two about putting on a decent reunion show.

But then again, perhaps the legacy is best kept as it stands.

Agree on Morrissey's voice, it's held up remarkably well

haha, The Roses reunion shows went down great, not sure what you've read. John Squire and Reni aren't known as both 1 of the best guitarists and drummer's for no reason lol.

Say what you want about Ian's voice but musician wise they are top of the pile

I didn't 'read' anything, I saw them at Optimus Alive in Lisbon last year & wasn't impressed. The crowd weren't up for it much which didn't help, they weren't bad but just not the performance I was expecting. I'm sure at Heaton park the crowd probably carried it much more, but me & my friends weren't overly impressed.

I saw them at Optimus too. We made our way to the front and luckily found another group of English lads and we turned it into a good atmosphere (for ourselves at least). Can see why you might have found it boring though. Luckily I was drunk and with some of my best pals, which is half the battle really.

Marr's album is pretty nondescript and bland, but his show in Manchester was fantastic, renditions of I Fought The Law and London were highlights, but let's not get any silly ideas, Morrissey is streets ahead as a performer, leaves him in the dust. The Roses reunion worked because what else can The Stone Roses be apart from The Stone Roses? Morrissey and Marr have both carved out sterling careers for themselves post-Smiths, Morrissey especially. Putting aside the impossibility of it for a couple of seconds, a Smiths reunion just wouldn't work.

Safe to say Marr will play with Chic too?

Dunno. There's always a lot of speculation about collaborations between who's on the bill and rarely does it happen IMO. Music is much more a business than an art these days regrettably.

seeing him on May 3rd, looking forward to it, esp if reviews have been great.

saw him play his part w/ the Cribs set on the Other in 2010, and assuming resale-day goes successfully for me, i'd be keen to catch him again if clashes aren't too bad

It's pretty safe to say this will happen, it's happened 3 times that I know of in the last couple of years. (Warehouse Project 2011, Parklife 2012 and Montreux Jazz Festival 2012) Johnny Marr also featured on last night's Nile Rodgers documentary.

London live is just way ace. He can sing and play the guitar - spot on. Can't wait, with the apparent absence of the Glade (G stage or whatever they call it nowadays) I think I'll hole myself up in the John Peel tent all week and wait for this :)

Alt-J will probably be headlining Glastonbury in 3 years time if Mumford are anything to go by......

They should be headlining this year if Mumfords are anything to go by. They're both pooh.

Although I take Alt-J over Mumfords anyday.

  • 2 weeks later...

This is why we need a better clash finder already, Johnny Marr could also clash with The Family Stone (another must see), so I might be doing a lot of running around on Saturday night rather than getting prime position for the Stones
