Which reminds me, since Blur were mentioned some way back as potential saviours....

I was at PP 1997, when they and Chemical Brothers we co-headliners on the Saturday. They didn't show up.

Cancelled on the day of the festival as I remember. I think the official reason was an Albarn 'throat infection'. But since he was at the height of his Britpop egotistical twattishness back then, it could simply have been 'can't be arsed'. Fortunately the Brothers were magnificent that day, so we didn't care that much.

Two years later in 1999, I went to the Friday of Werchter. Co-headliners were, er, Blur and the Chemical Brothers. They made it this time, but played a really lacklustre indifferent show (apart from Boys and Girls, which was great). The crowd didn't help as everyone was just calling for Song 2 throughout. A still-up-himself Albarn sneered at the audience at one point: "At least we showed up this time..." Twat.

Chemical Brothers were fantastic again though.

I really hope it isn't Blur.

I hope to see tomorrow a good name to replace Neil Young but I don't think it will happen and that's fine..

anyway thank you all for helping me with my questions and hope that we all have a great time, have fun!

Safe travels amfest and have a good one!

Depending on what time I get in, I may well pop across to the Irish Times for the football. Think the plan though is to head out for a meal around 7/8pm so that will mean a clash with the football. Want to also head to the Pre-Party and then we always have a few beers at the bar on the corner near our hotel (that's the most detailed description I can give I'm afraid). The hotel bar had a few bands drinking in there in 2011 so will no doubt attempt to (unsuccessfully) hassle some of them for backstage passes until the early hours.

Café Van Veldeke. Dorpstraat 29.

No real website as such. https://foursquare.com/v/van-veldeke/4dcea732c65bdac713666080

We're heading off to Hasselt on the bikes in an hour or two. Weather's looking good so far.

Not quite sure how my reply ended up inside your quote. Weird.

And now I'm trapped in here....

Safe travels Mr and Mrs Trufflehound, I presume you will be taking some much needed pit stops along the way?!?!?

Baby woke me at 5am and I couldn't get back to sleep again, was too excited running all the weekend plans through my head and mentally packing my bag! Tonight will be even worse but got quite a chilled out journey tomorrow. I'm flying at 9.40am into Schiphol and, unlike previous years when I have hired a car and driven down, I'm on the train so can kick back and relax. Meeting some friends in Rotterdam for a few hours and then back on the train to Hasselt via Antwerp.

New Union - am I right in thinking you are staying at the Holiday Inn? We're at the Express which is 2 mins walk away so if you fancy popping across for a beer tomorrow night then be good to meet up. We'll be at that bar on the corner until 1am or so and will then head to our hotel bar. Might even come across to your hotel as it's a bit posher so you'll have a better class of band hanging out (we're Club and Castello to your Marquee and Main).

    • Plenty of good stuff this month. Very difficult choice, but I'm going with some of those I've listened to most (the sunny weather may also have been influential)...   1. The Coral - 388 2. Kurt Vile - Philadelphia's Been Good to Me 3. The Lemon Twigs - Look For Your Mind!   Others I've been enjoying... Laurie Anderson's live album, Broken Social Scene, Pigeon, The Black Keys, etc
    • Yesterday was was Primavera is all about and a reminder of why I come back every year. I saw 9 acts, very diverse in terms of genre and vibe, and most of them were great.  Highlights:   The Cure - have wanted to see them for years. Finally caught them and it was immaculate. Robert Smith's vocals at his age are incredible. The band sounded exactly like the albums which is impressive. 2.5 hours with basically no filler somehow.  Viagra Boys - what a front man! So much energy. Non stop moshing. Sound was great, vibe was top notch. Again 10/10 for me.  Rilo Kiley - basically what pipan said. Not a huge crowd but nice vibe, good sound. Different from the other acts I saw.   I also enjoyed the late night electronic stuff with Aurora Halal and KI/KI being fun. Caught some of Skrillex before Aurora Halal and it was cool in it's own way but not really my thing so we left.
