I'm off to see Abdominal and the Obliques on Friday, not heard any of his solo stuff but will always have fond memories of that DJ Format album.

Music For The Mature B-Boy is fantastic.

Brilliant album. Would def make the effort if Abdominal was over for Glastonbury.

Would be gutted if ASAP rocky didn't turn up given he's around

Also he'll be on his 3rd album by the festival (if you include his debut mixtape) so I think he definitely needs to sub or headline a smaller stage (JP preferably)

what's the situation with RTJ? looking at the tour dates of their website they only seem to be busy on the Saturday but i seem to remember people being a bit worried that they weren't gonna be there due to a busy weekend. would be a huge shame if they weren't there

I thought someone had said they were booked up elsewhere over the weekend and could only play one date, I may be wrong though, because looking at their tour dates as you said it's America until early June then nothing until the Saturday.

I'm not sure because they are over for Field Day, then away and them back for R/L whether they would come back inbetween, hopeful though

I'm embarrasingly late to this this, I know but the more I listen to it, the more I think RTJ2 is fantastic. Also, Scroobius Pip's podcast, 'distraction pieces' had a really good episode with Killer MIke a while back. Really inspiring stuff.

http://www.scroobiuspip.co.uk/distraction-pieces-podcast/

Yup on both counts. Killer Mike has been my favourite of the Distraction Pieces so far. Got a lot of love for the Pip and have been perservering with the podcasts. His interview style is weak however, relying on him being pally with the guest to get any real substance from them. He seems so nervous, it cannot help that he has a noticeable impediment when he's not on stage. Still been some fantastic guests that I love to hear about, Billy Bragg, Russ, Mike Skinner et al.

  • 4 weeks later...

So what Hip-Hop acts do people think are most likely for this year? Last year was my first year at Glastonbury and I couldn't believe my luck when I found out that Jurassic 5 were playing... They did not disappoint!! Deltron was one of the highlights for me too, really good performance!

As a side note, my personal favourite thing that could possibly happen would be Das EFX getting a slot... would be unbelievably good. Fairly certain that will never happen though :(.

Run the Jewels, Action Bronson, Kendrick Lamar, Ghostface Killar, Cypress Hill and Wu-Tang Clan. Any of these would be ace

Yes they would! I am especially holding out for Kendrick Lamar as I feel like that is reasonably likely to happen. Also Nas as he seemed to have a weird slot headlining the Silver Hayes with a small crowd space last time so maybe he could get a West Holts slot or something as he is touring UK in summer.

Earl Sweatshirt maybe, I know he's in the UK early June at least.

I feel like the phrase "straight fire" is used excessively and genuinely become a bit of a joke.

But yeah this is straight fire

Just looking at others who are touring around that time that haven't been mentioned:

J.Cole is touring UK in May, maybe he could play? Mobb Deep are touring UK in May too but not sure if they are a bit heavy going for Glastonbury...

Kendrick has a gig in LA that weekend. Very doubtful.

ASAP Mob seem to do a bit over hear, would be good if it's just Rocky but the whole lot would be class. J.cole would be sick too. But I have a gut feeling it's cypress hill, would still be amazing

There's not a chance in hell that Glastonbury will get Blackstar and/or Raekwon/Ghost now is there?

I was thinking that Raekwon/Ghostface Killah could be a possibility, what with them both having albums out this year... Would be nice!

Just trying to find all the hip hop acts this year

only ones that stand out are Kanye, Run The Jewels, Pharrell (kinda), Azealia Banks, Young Fathers

don't think I can see any others?

Yeah, tell me about it. Luckily I like the other music there but really wish there was more rap. Kate Tempest is kinda poetry/rap and is good but defo wouldn't call her 'hip-hop' haa. Can't see any others though :(.

They'll put more hip hop on the later announcements, I think. I seem to remember that's the way it worked last year. Glastonbury isn't renowned for representing hip hop terribly well and it does look a bit thin on the ground at the moment (despite one of their three most major headliners being a rap artist!) but I'm confident that will improve.

Okay, cheers for the heads up. That's good! :)

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
