I think people use the word 'massive' far too liberally these days. I've honestly never heard XX mentioned anywhere away from this forum, and apart from briefly giving them a listen on YouTube (not really my sort of thing) I'd never heard any of their songs. I'm not arguing that they're not big within their respective genre, or with fans of that type of music (I honestly don't know enough about them to dispute it), but are they really generally massive?

Yes. They're massive in this country, their debut record went in at number 3, and won the Mercury and was generally viewed as the best record of that year., and their second went in at number 1. They're also very big acrosseurope. They've played major slots at most major festivals across Europe. Crystalised is also probably one of the most recognisable tracks of the last couple of years, and has turned into the new Hoppinpolla (the Sigur Ros montage track). I think massive is a fair description.

Where i was, you had loads of people dancing around for The Cure. And i think the thing there is, it's more a spectacle that you're watching. The Cure were the last band, they had know one to setup for. I've never suggested as far as I'm aware that Paramore to sub to Blur?, I haven't included Blur in a prediction even and I believe it'll be them less than a lot on here.

I could see a lot of Emo fans turning upto mosh and dance to FOB, they did it in 2009 and they certainly did in 2006.

I'm using Bloc Party as they seem to be subbing The Killers at the IOW. I'd say if they can do that there, they can at Reading. They don't sell gig tickets for big arena's but they have something a Reading crowd love. Dizzee would give the crowd exactly what I mean. Something with a bit of oomph to set it up for the headliner.

And that'd be your own opinion.

That's subjective and both of these bands have something in them to get a crowd going for a headline spot, guitar riffs, pits etc. Are you getting that from The XX? at somewhere like Bestival where it's appreciated moreso it's not needed but even thetime sees the points against it.

Just opinion

Your just using the wrong words(again). FOB and paramore dont do anything for me but can appreciate that 14 year old kids like them, your words they dont do anything comes accross there total garbage and no use to anyone.

Very True...on the other hand, during The Black Keys last year, so many people turned up just to sit through until Foos came out...if the XX subbed, it'd undoubtedly be a stunning show, but i worry that a large proportion would just turn up for whoever is headlining...Id love them to play but am worried it could be a wasted slot if everyone is bored and talking throughout.

Just listened to the new bullet for my valentine album (temper temper) first time through and not overly impressed by it.

I'm a fan of their other three albums and they were probably one of the acts of the weekend in 2012, half expecting them to be headlining the tent this year.

I'm hoping its a grower tbh.

i'll retract my earlier comment about The XX subbing and it being poor, Elbow in 2011 before Muse was incredible.. the atmosphere was perfect and if anything i preferred them to Muse. The XX however i think need a couple more years (maybe another album) before i'd be happy about them subbing, there's so many bands at the moment that i feel are rising through the lineup way to quickly (TDCC. BBC, Vaccines. and Alt-J and Jake Bugg are heading that way)

    • The first half of that game was cracking but then I fell asleep at half time. Maybe that's just the momentum of things.

    • A win is a win but it was a very poor game with only 4 shots on target in the whole game. Scotland obviously handed a massive bonus with Brazil and Morocco drawing but I don't think either of them will be too worried.
