I think people either get Kanye, or they don't. Part of his appeal is that he is a character, his lyrics acknowledge that he can at times be a moron, but who is perfect?

As someone else has said, look at Coachella, he nailed it. If Kanye gets himself on the pyramid, he's going to put on a show, and he's going to smash it out of the park compared to beyonce's choreographed advert.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is an absolutely fantastic album. i think somebody else on here summed it up as the Sgt. Peppers of hip hop albums and that's a perfect description of it. i've wanted to see Kanye for so so long so if he's the third headliner i will be ecstatic

watching Kanye at Coachella now... gotta say he makes one hell of an into and as others say he nails it... ( I didn't realise I knew that many of his songs tbh)

only thing is does he ever perform with a live band, it seems like its just a dude on some decks and then a couple of guys on keyboards

on another note watching the Coachella coverage makes me appreciate the work BBC do put into covering it, the camera work just seems sloppy

the main problem with him as a performer at festivals is that he seems very demanding that his stage sets are as identical to those he would have at his own shows as possible (which seems to be the reason he was late at the Big Chill, and was why he was incredibly late at Bonnaroo because he was on his his Glow In The Dark tour and needed some ridiculous stage setup)

but looking at those shows, the theatrics behind it all are incredible. nobody puts that much effort into their live shows

Think theres a few on here that will start to question the booking policies of the fest... Certainly one of the most polarising bookings in recent years, if true. Locals will be chuffed if he proves to be the Sunday headliner.

I'd be disappointed if he didn't have at least a little rant, imagine how it would go down if Kanye says something completely mad and offensive live on the BBC to a crowd full of middle class dorks, I'd love it.

Hiphop is as diverse as any genre. You have the talented and the talentless, the socially conscious and the ignorant, the substantive and the vacuous. Sadly Kanye West lies more towards the latter end of each of these three aspects.

West is a true product of new media/blogosphere. He has been very skilled at appealling to the HypeMachine/P4K fraternity - I can't say I've seen a more w*nked-over record than his most recent effort by a certain cadre of online "journo". As a live performer he leaves me very cold though - the Pyramid headlining spot is a stadium sized gig - as a result I can't see him achieving much beyond further impressing those already convinced of his "genius".

It depresses me that the hiphop acts with genuine style and substance are lucky to get a 4pm spot on the JazzWorld but this jackass gets to headline with his pitchshifted vocals and mumbling imprecise delivery.

    • No worries, it's a perfectly fair question to ask. I would expect people to be talking at the back & near the bars & that is where I would want them to be talking. If your group are enjoying yourselves & the music & briefly chatting to say how much you are loving a certain song etc, you would be an ideal group to stand behind.   My issue is with people having full blown conversations (usually unrelated what is on the stage) whilst being surrounded by people who are trying to listen to the music. This was happening in the middle and towards the front of all stages, & so you have limited options to move around & you may have spent 20 minutes waiting for the band trying to get the closest position that you can. If there's a group of 8 people, there may be 2 or 3 that like the band & the rest will start talking if the music isn't their thing. This may be the norm now for festivals, and if it is, that's ok & I will focus on a band's own gigs & UK based new music festivals.    I'm also not including consequences of my own decision making. I saw Geese on Wednesday so went to Occident after Men I Trust finished so it was understandable there would be chatting that far back. Similarly, getting to The XX after Olivia Rodrigo along with most of the site, I knew my chance of a good spot & a chat-free zone had gone so that was completely reasonable.   PS. I went to Bilbao BBK in 2023 & 2025 & enjoyed it. For Pulp & Kylie in 2025, I got a position early & was surrounded by a respectful & fun crowd for both. The UK non-headlining bands tend to go on the undercover 3rd stage, & most people like to congregate outside so you can usually get close to the front of that stage.
    • Interview on 6 music earlier, was going to get the album to have a listen, but comes out the day they play the festival
