Jesus feckin' christ. Shut the feck up moaning about Mumford and Sons. It would be nice to look at a thread on this place and not see people having a bizarre hatred for a band, who you can easily avoid.

We get it, you don't like them but the opposite of not liking something is indifference and not feeling the need to make a comment whenever they're mentioned.

Oh, and i'm not a Mumford fan either, before anyone jumps in with that.

Whatever happened to reasoned discussion and debate on eFests? It's just turned into one big dickfest lately.

I am not a Mumford fan, and would stay away as i did with Beyonce, just not my thing. But given their popularity and that they are in the public eye at the moment i think ME couldn't really go wrong if he put them as headlining on the Sunday. I guess it would appeal to the locals as well. I agree about the derth of big bands that have had great longevity that are still around at the moment. As for the future " greats " , well this is purely a mix of market forces and media driven that make these bands, oh and of course the talent and will to want too last for more that two albums.

From Pink Floyd...to Kasabian

From Led Zeppelin...to the Foo Fighters

From the Beatles...to Blur

From the Who to the Artic Monkeys

From the Rolling Stones to the Kings of Leon

From Bowie to Jarvis

From Talking Heads to the Foals

ELP, ELO, Yes, Grateful Dead, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Van Morrison, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Marley, Presley, Prince, Dylan, Springsteen. Nowadays, who's got the potential to make it on to that list. Mumford & Sons ?

We used to have loads of fantastic live bands, in their prime, playing rock n roll, blues, pop, heavy metal, reggae, ska, art school, jazz, soul, folk, disco, krautrock, pub-rock, glamrock, country-rock, punk ...........and then it stopped.

Glastonbury will always have the Pyramid Stage, but they might have to build a smaller one in future.

Ok. Adele. Already mentioned, but I'll restate that. As a mark of how incredulously out of touch the Grammys are, Babel winning best album? Seriously? Even M*mford fans know that's shit. If you're saying that Mumford are a bigger live act, that's only because Adele doesn't really tour. If you're looking for a bigger British live act, that's released a current album, that have been recognised by the Grammys this year: Paul McCartney.

Assuming he charged the prices other acts of his type (Mac, Madonna, Stones) do, i truly doubt he'd sell as many tickets as Mumford. (I did say band btw).

You do have one direction, but, I believe Mumford sell more in US, and One Direction aren't exactly headlining festivals around Europe.

Is there a band right now that:

- sells millions of records around the world

- consistently sells out arenas around the world

- headlines festivals around the world

?

In an unrelated note, Sound City Players are playing The Forum next week, 65 quid

Coldplay aren't around right now are they? That's why it was emphasised right now. You can go on if you want, but I'd be very surprised if you could find an act bigger than them worldwide, right now.

The point about winning a Grammy is showing how big they are. It wasn't just some Best Edited Performance Of Country Music On A Cruise Ship Grammy either, it was the most prestigious.

Weirdly enough, while writing that,'ve just come across an article called "how did mumford get to be the biggest band in the world?"

Without wanting to sound like a boring old hippy (I'm really not, honestly!) isn't it a bit sad to reduce the festival and all its weird and wonderful esoteric delights to this: bickering over whether X are bigger than Y, or sell more records, or fill more arenas, or have better Search Engine Optimisation results?

Yeah, of course it's important who headlines - the tickets are £200 nowadays, and it's going to be a factor to most people and a major part of their festival experience, but it's like a football forum in this thread (and I love football, separately and for very different reasons), with all the arguing and moaning about who's bigger by how many per cent, and who's subbing for who.

Anyway, I'm off back over there to practice my poy and make some elderflower wine wearing my hemp trousers. :)

The hating on Mumford is getting ridiculous on the Glastonbury forums now, people really need to pull their heads out of their arses. If you dont like them fine, some people on here do and will be happily enjoying them whilst you stand their grumpily with your arms cross trying to educating everyone around you about your opinion of good music.

Im fucking praying Mumford headline now just to see the look on peoples faces when they get the biggest crowd of the weekend.

Both Mumford's albums are in the top 10 in terms of sales in 2012/13. Jack White, Adele, Black Keys, Josh Groban, The Lumineers, Fun, Bruno Mars all in there too.

Mumfords first album has been in the top 100, globally, for well over 3 years.

Mumford and Sons are fine. Dull as bongwater, but fine. They've caught the whole folk rock/Irish folk rock thing just at the right time. There are far worse performers out there though. Far far worse.

The biggest selling band in the world is usually pretty pedestrian anyway.

Yeah, but that wouldn't happen because I'd be somewhere else. No-one has a right to headline or not headline and that wasn't what started me off - it was someone stating a completely inaccurate fact, with a strange idea of what is "current". Coldplay are still current and it's retarded to say they're not. Just because they're not halfway through "Clocks" doesn't mean they're not current. I could probably make a case for the biggest band in the world being any of 30 or 40 bands if I have a long list of stipulations.

P.S. One Direction were 5 on that list.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early.
