2013 Headliners

Didn't M.E say that The Cure would only accept a Pyramid headline slot?

I don't think he did.

I know a few years ago The Cure said thru the press that they'd like to play, and there was a supposed response from the festival along the lines of "we don't want you, you've not been very good when you've played here".

And to be fair, that's my memory of them - they were a band going thru the motions.

Out of curiosity, anyone know what they were like at Bestival? My friends who'd not really listened to them before said they were brilliant. I personally would love to see them at Glasto, though I have no idea what their setlist would be like.

Are they one of those band though where you either really like them or will find them dull?

I'm going to use Radiohead and Coldplay here, two of whats been called the most depressing bands out there but loads love and loads hate, just a comparison is all.

I absolutely loved The Cure when I saw them at Glastonbury in '86 - it's that performance that put me off.

I remember some wit shouting "play us another happy song".

Whilst i love the Cure, they'll only headline festivals where they can get 2 hours plus, and they are not trendy enough for Glasto really.

Latitude maybe though, i can see that one day.

I think Radiohead, Arcade Fire, and Pulp 2013 headliners. If one of them say no, put Mumford and Sons in their place.

I saw The Cure at Wembley Arena a few years ago and I enjoyed them but they did feel forced and you could tell they weren't comfortable, I also remember an insane amount of encores and could hear people talking around me saying they were shit. I wouldn't pay to see them again but if they played at a fest I would be up for them.

I'm curious why Lady Gaga is so heavily predicted for 2013?

I know the festival closes with a big pop act, but are people only predicting her because Beyonce was a big success this year and they think another female solo artist will do it again?

So is Beyonce and I think GaGa has a better fit for festival audiences and live music than Beyonce :P (And Beyonce didn't even go for the kudos of headlining TiTP!). I can easily see Lady GaGa nearing the end of this album run/starting a new album run with a boost from headlining Glastonbury.

Yeah but Beyonce's got a bit more of a link to the festival, being married to Jay-Z and being close friends with Chris Martin. And she was a last minute booking after blink 182 dropped out, again playing under her close friends in Coldplay. I just can't see her doing many festival shows, she hasn't done any and out of the 3 festivals she's rumoured for, Glasto is the least likely due to the low pay, and she doesn't really need the publicity.

Btw I'm as much playing devil's advocate,I don't really mind if she does/doesn't play, I'm just curious as to why she seemed such a dead cert.

Had a dream last night Pink Floyd headlined in 2013. Started with Shine on You Crazy Diamond. The stage was all black apart from the Floyd prism on the screen at the back of the stage. Gilmours guitar ringing out across the Pyramid Field….. “Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun”.

Shivers even thinking about the possibility.

    • Hot on the heels of outdoor gig number 1, the second arrived quickly! Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in Malahide last night (lovely sunny evening for it!). As usual, fantastic gig (ebbed and flowed from tender to feral). Since they aren't touring an album it was very different to the Wild God shows from last year, with a bunch of tracks that hadn't been played in a good while wheeled out. Highlights for me were a blistering rendition of Hiding All Away (that merged into the end of White Elephant) and a touching interpretation of A Rainy Night in Soho to close the set (well after curfew!). @Superscally, still nothing from Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! (they really must not like that album!)
    • I’m putting the 2026 code and it’s not applying the discount. Does somebody know why?
    • I think I’ve asked this before, but do we know why this is a ‘never happen’ one? I understand with Queen and Duran Duran, but I’ve never seen anything written saying one way or another if they’d do it. Would be an incredible get.
    • Here we goooo!   I never thought I'd say this at Prima Porto, famous for its rainy weather... I wish it'd be a bit colder ;D
    • I saw an interview the other day with Simon and he was asked about Glastonbury legends spot and he did say they consider themselves headliners and also said something like "The legends slot is a kind of headline slot" The actual wording might be slightly different but it gave an indication that maybe?
