Don't listen to jump, just be yourself. Unless you're a dick that is then try and be someone else

Rubbish! Kaos shouldn't be himself, he'll just starting talking about obscure hipster music with befuddle looks on his new co-workers faces when what he should be doing is starting as he means to go on, by smuggling in a shiv and taking out the top dog to take their place.

I've just found out that they do dark chocolate Hobnobs, and have access to such a pack. I'm only going to have three because any more than that hurts on the Hobnob front. They are the 21st centuries answer to Crawford's Cheddars. That said, I'm probably wrong there because I've just remembered that Pringles are the new Cheddars. Anyway, one down, two to go.

I've had a horrible run of luck lately. Lost a job, then my car exhaust fell off, slashing a tyre with it. Because of busted car today, I couldn't get into a new job starting today, and thus they decided not to take me on (temping), so I'm out £370 on new exhaust and tyre, and don't have a new job to follow it up.

Why am I posting this in this thread? Because despite a seriously crap 10 days, I haven't sunk into a depressive spiral. I'm feeling that it's crappy stuff that's happening, rather than the universe persecuting or punishing me, and I still feel upbeat about both the immediate and long-term future. Considering how inclined over my entire life I've been to sink and wallow and hide from the world when I get knocked back, I'm feeling really chuffed that I'm coping.

Also, my new flat is awesome, and I've moved most of my stuff in. Now I just need to find another job so I can keep paying for it...

That sucks big time!!!

But keep focused on the positives like the awesome flat!! The job front can only get better!

Happy to hear that you are still up beat kaosmark2. I'd be wallowing in my own shit if that had happened to me. That said, I am beginning to learn that being pessimistic isn't the way forward. I've got some major shit going to happen soon but, for once, don't really care. Laughing all the way to the sanitorium this end.

Wallowing is fairly common my end, so to not wallow, particularly when it's still kinda winter, is a massive plus. Laughint to the sanatorium is immensely satisfying.

Good customer service - happened twice in recent weeks. Makes a nice change.

Also: mums. Mine has been to visit for the weekend and she's awesome. I love hearing my 4 year old chatting away to her and them laughing together.

I've finally found a pub with camping fields attached to it that will cater for my 50th birthday celebrations. They said we can make as much noise as we like and have off the ground fires. The invite list is about 40 people. If even half of that many come then it should be a great laugh - in fact if it's just me and the misses it will be a great laugh. I really wanted to celebrate outdoors so this is a great development. I'm banning musical instruments as I want people to talk to each other and have the craic. It's only a 40 minute drive away from Birmingham too. Oh, and it's only a £5 a night to camp. Well happy.

Sounds great Yog, we used to camp at a pub in Long Itchington for the beer festival May day weekend, a forgiving landlord for some late night shenanigans is a wonderful thing. Being hungover and washing in a pub bog, not so great ;)

Have a quality time :)

Made my first thing on my sewing machine! Feeling very proud of myself, even if my handiwork leaves a lot to be desired!

I so want to learn how to use a sewing machine. Somebody tried to show me once but I was a bit too out of it to register anything meaningful at the time. I really should pull my finger out on this one and get someone to show me while I am sober. Anyway, congratulations on your first piece of sewing machine sewing.

Normally this would go in the "Things that annoy you thread" but it was the most London thing I've seen on public transport.

So as usual after getting off the DLR at Bank, I stood correctly on the right when I got on the esclator as is good etiquette in these parts. However a couple of people in front of me, was a woman standing on the left (and Bank is a rather busy station in the morning, for anyone who hasn't been!). I thought she she would get the hint quick enough and either start walking or annoy someone and get between on the right.

Nope, she stood there! However instead of telling this confused woman where to stand, about 10 people literally climbed past her, just shoving their way around her (and the people standing on the right.) It wasn't until near the top when another woman told her it might be good idea to stand right did she move!

Just made me smile for some reason, it was just so, London! (mainly as I was a bit further back enjoying the commotion she had managed to cause!)

Thanks yog! Our local craft shop runs beginners workshops as do adult education centres I think, worth a look at your nearest one

Thanks for the advice bunique. However, my sister in law is a whizz on the sewing machine and would show me no problem. It's a case of that I simply haven't asked yet. I have a few things in mind that I'd like to have a go at so really must make the effort to ask her to show me how to use one.

Must have been her first time to London. Either that or she'd just escaped from the Bethlem Royal Hospital.
