Will U2 play their classics or their new stuff?

I saw U2 this summer and they played loads off their new album obviously. I personally don't like the new album or actually much they have done this century to be fair BUT......

when they do their older classics they are a fantastic live band.

I know they will still be in the middle of their 360 Tour when they come to Glasto (and still promoting their latest 'average' stuff) but will they take a night off to play a set full of classics? Especially as they won't be bringing their fancy stage set, and it's Glasto's 40th and they've never played before.

If you're reading this Sir Bonio, make sure you stick to the old stuff (and none of your preaching too!)

If they play only new stuff then their egos are ridiculously huge!

Greatest hits sets are the stuff of festivals!

So they will probably play all new stuff

:P

they will continue to promote their new album of course. I am sure they are proud of it so why would they disregard it and only play old stuff? That doesnt make any sense at all. What sort of a band would think their most recent work is crap?

Have a look at a recent set list and the glastonbury set wont vary much I assure you.

Anyone that thinks they will get a greatest hits set are sadly deluded.

See Bruce Springsteen for further details.

The thing I don't understand with these questions is that EVERY U2 set is a greatest hits set to a degree. Aren't they only playing 3 songs from the current album on this tour? It's a two hour show! There are lots of places to look at every setlist U2 have ever played and a quick glance suggests that the biggest hits are pretty much certain to appear at Glasto e.g.

Where the Streets have no Name

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

With or Without You

Pride

One

Elevation

Vertigo

A mix of old and new - with those last two proving it doesn't have to be old to be a U2 hit.

A U2 greatest hits would be they way forward, songs from every album. If they do this they will keep every member of the audience happy from th 16 year old chart shopper to the 60 year old hardcore fan. Job done.

I disagree I think they will tailor the set to an audience they will know is more partizan, remember the band had Jay-Z in their studio before his headline show, and spoke to Bruce after his show. they are sure to deliver a more greatrest hits set that will appeal to a crowd that's not just a U2 fans audience.

their manager has said U2 "will play a mixture of material from their entire career", so it sounds as tho it'll be a greatest hits set and not a promo for their latest album.

U2 aren't stupid. They know well that the crowd will expect a "greatest hits" set (and after speaking to the boss, I'm sure he'll have relayed the fact that after his best effort, where he played almost all of his well known songs, that the crowd still spent 10 minutes singing "Born in the USA" before he came on for his encore)...expect what they consider to be the greatest hits from the more recent output (Beautiful Day, Elevation, Vertigo, Stuck in a Moment, Walk On, Magnificent, Get on your Boots), with the rest of the set spanning their career...they'll have to leave something out or they'd be there for 5 hours, but I reckon most people will leave happy.
