BMTH progressively getting more and more radio airplay and bigger shows under their belt. Still a long way off - as said, they need that sustained crossover success to make it - but I can't discount them entirely either.

BMTH seem more likely for an eventual Other headline set.

Yes, headline pointy isn't happening.

They will headline the next time they play. 2027 will depend on where they're at with the next record + what's happening with the likes of Oasis and Fred Again.

I'd say 2028 maybe more likely, at this point.

I would say 2028 is more likely. I would imagine it'll be 25 and 26 playing out this album, 27 writing and 28 back. I think Charli if her next album delivers bigger will be an option with them too, along with Foo Fighters if 27 doesn't happen.

I'm not sure why I think they'd be out of the question. Now GNR have done it, think the floodgates are relatively open.

I wouldn't out GNR and Green Day in the same bracket.

They've done Isle of Wight and are doing Download so have no issues with UK festivals but clearly the right deal hasn't been in place.

I would expect them to be likelier for 2028 than 27 though. I'd expect them to be having 2026 off/doing side-projects then 2027 recording judging by their usual rotations.

I think it's more the fact they lobbed a whole load of money at them and have adapted their bookings recently. IOW haven't booked primarily heavier bands, metalcore, heavy metal so I'm not sure IOW getting Green Day is comparable. Green Day definitely didn't want to Download before or they would have.

Lil simz would be unbelievably poor booking, second only to SZA in terms of tiny crowd they’d get. The festival does seem desperate to push her tho so who knows. I never thought she was sub size but she already has done that.

BMTH will never do it imo

Think Simz would be a shocker myself and I think her crowd as before Coldplay definitely makes it look like it was bigger for her. Further back there wasn't as many people actually really into it as I walked past.

Likely cause DM hates playing for crowds that aren't into it as much as their standalone shows.

I would be deeply surprised if any future Depeche Mode UK concerts weren't just standalone shows like you say. If they're now thinking they can book one-off London stadium gigs, like playing the Olympic Stadium in 2017 (which I was at) or Twickenham in 2023, that's probably something I'd imagine they'd be happy to do again. Maybe even try the prestige of seeing if they can book Wembley.

Agree re Little Simz, she’s got some good material, but she’s disappointing live (I’ve seen her twice)

I think it's more the idea of them turning up to other festivals. Isle of Wight clearly coincided with Green Day's UK stadium tour tbf given they were here in June around that festival happening, and also they had the cash to play with for a big closer.

Download isn't that far out of the wheelhouse tbf - their songs were regulars on Kerrang's platforms back in the day, which I seem in my head to log as clues an act might turn up there to be in such an oversimplified and probably inaccurate way. But maybe it just wasn't on their radar until now. Or they just weren't being offered enough cash.

In that case there better be a very good reason why she’s not playing this year

Maybe her schedule doesn't line up with being around UK in June/July. Maybe she is booked for filming.

She's still yet to announce a stadium tour that has been hard-rumoured for ages; which now seems more likely to be shifted to summer 2026 at this point. Unless she is instead doing arenas at end of the year?

It's more the fact that Download decided to remain booking many of the same metal metal bands and heavier rock bands that wouldn't suit Green Day. I've got to go back to 2013 to find a year when Download has booked a sub and 3rd as light as in music output as the Friday this year and with Download on top of that. I think Sunday 2008 is the last time they booked a top 3 one day 'closer' to the top 3 Friday.

Muse are in the category of fallback booking now. If all else fails, they can do it

I was wondering this after watching their Zane Lowe interview from a few months ago but do we think KOL are also in the fallback booking category? They were very revitalised on their last tour than they have been in quite a few years and Caleb spoke very highly about headlining in the interview. Or do we think they could be a potential very strong Other headliner if someone like Swift gets booked down the line?

Depeche Mode are going to do it one day, surely?

Could have a new album out in 2027, going off their 4-year cycles.

I dont think theyre a glastonbury headliner really anymore. If they were gonna do it theyd have done it by now. They also probably love money.

They have released 4 albums in 5 years (plus a solo album). What makes you think they will wait 3 years before they even start the 5th? I would think all available evidence suggests this is nowhere near the way they work.

I found Simz slightly underwhelming when she headlined WH in 2022, but her Pyramid set last year was a big improvement. Obviously benefited by the number of people who were there to see Coldplay, but she bags more confidence and energy, I thought.

Her new song suffers from an atrocious mix, but Simz is very capable of pulling out more bangers and I don't see any reason why her potential can't be even higher than it's been. Another great album and she's in contention for a headliner slot, no question.

Its grown on me with every listen to be fair, Its not exactly a pop banger thought -    Its more of a Little Simz tries to do an Alt-J song -   But i love Alt J o im all good with it.

Delete thread. Nothing to do with anyone mentioned, but just delete.

Or I'll start one for every year for the next 10 years.

In the they would never come to an agreement category i think. They are a other headliner / pyramid sub nowadays but wouldn't take it. They would be first in line for a bump up to headliner most years i think, but won't be in the position to take it anyway

Simz is not even close to pyramid headliner at the moment, nothing suggests to me she's going to get any further up the lineup. Pyramid sub was already a huge push.

I still wonder about KOL posting all that Glastonbury stuff on there socials last year.   If there was some contact about playing 2023 and it fell apart - perhaps they felt they were getting the headliner call up and the festival had the Other Stage in mind -  just a theory
