So... They're not cancelling tickets found on reseller sites. Because, exactly as expected, they've no way to know who's selling them, and sharing that information would put the reseller site in breach of GDPR.

Instead they're cancelling those they 'think' used a bot, and upsetting a lot of genuine buyers in the process. Well done Ticketmaster / Oasis, well done... 🙄

Quite something that at this moment in time, a story on it is the most read article on the Guardian's site: Dreams ‘crushed’ as Ticketmaster cancels fans’ Oasis ’25 tickets | Ticketmaster | The Guardian

I'd heard about it as well earlier this week. Can imagine you'd be quite irritated, especially given how pricey hotels are.

I imagine a few FV might still turn up on Twickets in the week leading up to the show but can imagine there might be a blind panic when that e-mail first comes through.

An interesting one, someone on Reddit saying that they'd been told by Ticketmaster that using auto fill in on forms can have you flagged as a bot

If this is true, that feels like a real flaw with their site's coding.

That's true, being registered should mean they've got that info anyway.

It also shows how many first timers there were buying. Or needing to update stuff. Just a giant gap when it comes to being prepared. I mean Ive used Paypal as a way to pay before with TM uk but thats just in case using my card straight up didnt work. When the sales happened I had some confidence I was going to pull through because of the stuff happening and even in the lead up. Those are the moments when it pays off you are always going through onsales and stuff so you know how to handle things

That's a sign of how many have been caught up in it!

Quite.

We expecting there to be a lot of tickets on something like Twickets in the lead to this? Usually there are for big stadium shows but I don't recall seeing that many around during Taylor Swift's similarly massive run.

Could be people that were struggling to log in too, even before the sale. I had issues myself, took me a few attempts to get logged in, thankfully I did get logged in before the sale in the end. I think my issue was something to do with me trying for Ireland too.

Could you even check out as a guest for this sale?

No. Itll be a small percentage. The smartest move is to release at the box office and have them be direct entry afterwards which wont allow any reselling. If people want them bad enough theyll queue up at the stadiums.

I queued up all night outside Maine road for Maine Road tickets, outside the Apollo for Knebworth tickets and outside Virgin Records on Market street for G-Mex tickets. Queueing for tickets was an event in itself. Not sure I could do it these days, as my age.

How do people scrape Ticketmaster etc for tickets? I’m a software engineer and can’t figure it out without getting blocked. Can’t even see where to setup alerts.

Almost certainly can't. Currently it has a text verification to even get onto the Oasis pages. Which, interestingly, it said it would have for the queue on ticket day but it didn't in the end

I think the term "bot" gets used somewhat casually and can cover a lot of ground.

For example I doubt there's much going in in terms of full unattended automation. But certainly I think there'll be people using multiple Selenium (or similar) instances within containers or VMs that are scripted to do certain things and that someone can step in and manually drive as necessary.

and I also think there's a general misunderstanding thinking the only people using anything remotely automated are only touts, and similarly that the only way touts get tickets is by using "bots" and that's why everything sought after sells out quickly. I'd imagine touts have realised they're best of having multiple people trying for them normally to improve the odds now that these queueing systems are in.

I'm periodically checking the Oasis ticket pages, which takes you through the queue page, and noticed it mentions switching off any browser extensions that might get you flagged as a bot. I guess anyone who works in development/software testing/SEO etc etc could accidentally trigger something with the wrong extension.

I guess the vast majority of "normal" people use phones nowadays

I'm glad they're cracking down on these bots, they piss me off.  I hope the fans who weren't using bots get their tickets back. Those that did should suck it up and remember next time to get in the queue like everyone else. The people talking about it seem to be completely innocent so hopefully investigations will prove this.

If that's true, then f**ks sake of course you're going to struggle (especially on an overblown site like Ticketmaster) vs a full featured browser.

Have they said anything about how/when these tickets will be reallocated?

not yet, I'm guessing they'll wait until the disputes are dealt with first?

On here it says "Refunded tickets will be made available again at face value in due course from the official ticket agent Ticketmaster" https://help.ticketmaster.co.uk/hc/en-us/articles/32462862956945-OASIS-REFUNDS-FAQ

Well, that will be something of a cluster again, you imagine.

I'm guessing they'll do them like the pre sale, mailing list people with store purchase history or something like that. Not perfect but better than nothing

Just saw someone who reported Ticketmaster cancelling their tickets saying they've got them back, but aren't allowed to transfer them, and have to pick them up with ID in person. Glad to see they're compromising on this

Thats what should happen to the ones which get released. I mean thats at least semi convenient vs only selling them at the venue directly. Making them will call with matching id and such along with possible direct entry thwarts anything.

Look, the thing is people have the abilities a bot does when theyre trying to figure out who is who during an onsale. If you understand the system enough and know where theres gaps and work arounds you can easily get flagged but theres still ways around that anyway. Like if you refreshed too quickly the system would stop you from even trying again. Its similar to the old glasto ticketing system except youre outright blocked. But yeah, even when I got into those sales I took my sweet time when making the purchase. I didnt do it in 30 seconds. That sets things off for them. And the auto fill thing still bothers me cause you shouldve had your info already saved in your account.

Tickets were never removed from my account, but haven't been able to transfer them since the day I got them.

Slightly annoying as I got through and got the tickets for my partner, two of her friends, and my cousin. I'm not going. Am I going to have to give them access to my ticketmaster account on the day probably?

Transfer will be enabled about 10 days before the show
