Manics for Cardiff, surely?

Id say anywhere but Cardiff -  The Manics are probably a bigger act than Oasis in the Cardiff area.  They are a Beatles size act to the Cardiff support.

If you are Oasis you don't want to get outdone by a support

To be fair Cast have got some absolute tunes.  Probably one of the more underated acts from this period.  Walkaway, Finetime, Alright, Sandstorm, Flying.   these are solid tunes.

Worth getting there - early enough to survive an Ashcroft set for.

The Manics aren't going to outshine Oasis regardless of where they play, but particularly as it's unlikely that the crowd will be entirely Welsh due to the scramble for tickets. In the same way Heaton Park isn't going to be full of Mancs.

Take it you have never seen either act live before?

That's not really the point.

Yes, the Manics would be the better live act by miles.

But on that day, the crowd will be (solely) geared up for Oasis and so anyone short of The Beatles, with a reincarnated George and John, wouldn't "outshine" them as such.

I guess this depends on how we are defining Outshiiiiiiiiine -  I was literally thinking about it has being the better live act.  But your way also makes sense - im not sure it had a universal meaning

Its pretty moot at this point as they are not the support

The problem the support acts have in Manchester is that Heaton Park is absolutely sh*t and based on previous experience the less time spent in there the better. The Pub is very valid competition especially vs Ashcroft.
