Muse won't play lower than Fender

Feel like them playing 2 years ago and Werchter not being named alongside Mad Cool/NOS might be as big a clue it won't be them as the stand-in.

Tbf Kings of Leon went from day toppers to subs so this festival and indeed once had Depeche Mode sub-headlining Editors so it has form for the unexpected placement.

This is Rock Werchter we're talking about though, where Blink-182 played third down below system and linkin park and the killers subbed after headlining a day on their own. I believe anything is possible with this festival.

It has been pointed out that they were playing with Matt Skibba then and not Tom DeLonge.

To be Editors are huge in Belgium. KOL were getting the same set length though as Fender so it was basically a co-headliner. The festival still have tickets to sell for the whole weekend so it's not like it's all sold, closed and they can necessarily just go and break the band for a main headliner to play second headline. To be honest they had the chance to grab someone bigger than Fender originally and they chose not to.

Who was originally in the running on Sat?

Blink did play 4th down on the reunion tour with Tom, but I think after the 2017 performance the organisers realised the power of nostalgia bookings.

Does anyone know if the merchandise booths use the coin system at the festival or just standard payment?

Standard payment. You can also order online and click and collect to skip the queues.

What a let down, but obviously the best they could do given the circumstances

Yungblud doesn't upset me particularly, but he always seems so inauthentic and contrived. It feels like what Simon Cowell/X-Factor would come up with if they decided to create a "Rock Star" one year.

Hopefully some people are happy with it.

Well I’m more than happy to just see all of Maribou State instead.

But just echoing those people who decided to buy a day ticket when KOL were added and getting Yungblud instead… crikey

Yungblud 10x better live than KOL. Big upgrade. Go listen to Lovestick Lullaby, Hello Heaven Hello, Loner & The Funeral.

Not even judging the man but he already did RW 2022 AND RW 2024.

THREE times in FIVE years ???

"Our programmers immediately began the search for a replacement, and they found it in the form of an energetic British punk rocker"

Yeah right... They once again looked in their recycling bin and found an easy solution, that degraded the festival to an even lower lever then I ever though was possible. This is an utter disgrace and just shows that they don't care anymore. Another Gen-Z wannabe-rocker, like the line-up didn't have enough of them already. He's not even emergency sub material and claims that this was the best solution they could have come up with is just bs. At least they saved a good bunch of money. Better than KoL live? Probably, but that's still like comparing apples and oranges.

He’d of been a sub next year anyway so just bringing it forward a year

It never stops to amaze me how they have some artists that they recycle almost every year. I can understand that there is a limited availability of headliners, but om the next level there are plenty of options. It's laziness, but also the downside of actors like Live Nation coming in to ruin the festival business. You better have agents in bed with them if you want to play festivals.

Yeah never mind I take it all back the magic of this festival is gone, Yungblud headlining after playing my last three Werchters in a row is quite literally the worst decision they could have possibly made, 90 minutes of white noise would be preferable. Genuinely gobsmacked. This guy has played like 80% of the festivals I've ever been too at this point he's got to be the biggest industry plant of the 21st century.

Well said, it is an utter disgrace. It's almost an insult to KOL fans.

The Funeral I think is easily his best song. He might be 10x better live but that's a staggering downgrade to have not only needed to pull them in because of being a rubbish day and poor sales but now having to replace them. It would have probably looked better at this point to put him 3rd down and just have Raye bumped up. It's turned into a devastatingly bad lineup for what it should be.

Doesn't matter what he would have been next year, that's 12 months away from music release, other dates to confirm it etc etc. A lot of acts could be said to be sub or a headliner in 12 months time but the fact is they aren't booked as that because they aren't

    • Audrey Hobert getting a lot of traction lately and new single on Friday. Wonder if she could be round next summer.
    • Think Pulp are optimistic, not in terms of size but just that they've been on the road (albeit not intensively) for 3 years in a row and it feels like EotR is the deliberate end of the cycle.   Would be fairly surprised if they're active next year.
    • 👍 plus they brought their own screens 📺 either side of the stage.
    • Production was the only thing that could even explain why she would back out. Like they had sorted out the financials and she was fine with it and then a production meeting happened. It all fell apart. It was very clear that she was not going to compromise her show one bit and then that show in Brazil pretty much confirmed it. There was like one element they couldnt pull off outdoors, but it was negligible since the rest was a carbon copy of the tour she had been on. Glasto is not willing to make any bold changes on the Pyramid stage so then theyre kinda stuck in terms of what some acts want/demand. I think the easiest solution to that is putting her on Friday. You deal with the changes for one night and then re configure for the rest of the weekend. In 24 they were fortunate to have had Dua and Coldplay on Fri and Sat so they could both use the b stage. But I think it was removed for Sunday?     I saw a random rag article earlier that said Olivia Dean turned down Glasto BECAUSE her ex ( not even confirmed dating ) Harry Styles was playing the fest. hahahaha
    • No argument that he’s bigger than ever, I just have no enthusiasm for it.
