Albums of the year 2023 (publications)

It’s that time of year again, a month and a half before the end of the year and the year end lists are popping up.

Can’t say I agree at all with their #1 although with it being Mojo I’m not at all surprised, but some other stuff here that I’ll be checking out.

I really like The Ballad of Darren, it grew on me, but seems sad somehow it's down as best of the year when it's far from the best Blur album.

Of Mojo's top 25 albums, I rate Lana Del Rey, Lisa O'Neill, The Pretenders & Paul Simon higher.

Pleased to see BC Camplight fairly high up on the Mojo list - it's top of the pile for me, this year

I got their #1 recently, False Lankum, really good, suspect not to most tastes though.

Pleasantly surprised to see Robert Forster at number 4 on Mojos list.

I really liked this song, pleasantly surprised to see him getting some acclaim as I thought his music was something obscure I'd stumbled across

Though I do like when a song I've not happened on before starts cropping up at the top of all the lists - in this case Super Shy by NewJeans - meaning I've missed a trick but got something new to catch up on.

This is why every December I start advent album of the day. I use it as an excuse to listen to albums that either friends or these end of year lists are saying are great and seem to have passed me by. Every year I find some gems that I would otherwise perhaps have missed.

So far my general thoughts are that Lana Del Ray is getting a lot more credit than I think she deserves, Wednesday are getting the correct amount of credit which is loads, and Creeper are getting no credit which is criminal. Also, no love for The Worm by HMLTD so far.

Quite funny that their #1 actually came out last year but because everybody’s so trigger happy with their lists it wasn’t released in time.
