Of all the things you could accuse her of, being derivative or not sufficiently distinctive makes no sense

Closest comparison I keep coming back to is Alanis Morrisette. Is the chart full of people who sound like Alanis? I’ll have to start listening again if so.

Such a shame that this is the way the industry is going at the moment. Just listened to one of her songs for the first time, sounds exactly the same as most of the other dirge in the charts. if this is really what we’re talking about to headline the festival then I feel very pessimistic.

How many songs have you actually listened to? Because I'd challenge you to find 5 other artists that sound exactly the same considering even she doesn't sound exactly the same to herself from one song to the next

Just the one.
that’s all I need to hear - I can tell I’ll hate the rest of it.

music should be varied but all the stuff out at the moment blends into one, at least to me.

I would argue that you can never form anything close to an accurate opinion on an artist from listening to one single song

Every single great artist that has ever lived has had at least one bad song, if that was the only song you ever heard then you'd completely write them off

You do you though

I too am unable to distinguish between Bad Idea Right?'s new wave guitars and Doja Cat at number one rapping over a Dionne Warwick sample.

Brother I've given up this fight, fair play to you, Calgon, for keeping on.

'No, but you know, I love music and, I've got really wide eclectic taste, everything from Fleetwood Mac to Blondie, don't pigeonhole me, and also, don't go dissing my music cos you know, as long as people like it it's all fine. Just a couple of things though, ALL modern pop music is shite, not like when I was young, and secondly where are the future Glastonbury headliners going to come from cos I don't see anybody capable of stepping up and that's definitely their problem and not mine'

Sorry to have hijacked this thread, but a little further on and it has confirmed George Michael would have laid waste to The Pyramid.

Because of his catalog that nobody realizes is that deep and good? Yeah pretty much. Though I dont know how they didnt try to arrange Adam Lambert instead of Adam Levine and even Sam Smith for Miguel. Carrie Underwood channeled her American Idol performance with that one.

it's her obligatory female-solo-artist-scores-young-adult-fantasy foray, but I cannot see it troubling the Oscars.

I do wonder how many Babrie will get in there. It'll be criminal if they skip on I'm Just Ken in favour of Dance the Night, despite its ubiquity.

Not that it means too much but the Grammys song for visual media nominations came out last week, and 4 out of the 5 were for Barbie. I’d guess I’m Just Ken and What Was I Made For will get in at the Oscars

I saw that. I quite like the Grammy category for score - it tends to mix and match the obvious Oscar fare with some other stuff generally snubbed or from television and video game formats.

Unless there is to be another RRR-esque moment where love for an underrepresented film as a whole coalesces around the race, I think Original Song would be What Was I Made For? all the way to the bank. They do love a good comedy song though, so I'm Just Ken hopefully makes the cut too.
