FIFA Women's World Cup 2019 Tactical Preview: Norway vs England

Of feck - the England's broken factor - post Brexit, Covid and the loss of the BBC contract the Met may have lost expertise and staff who made it world leading and they are now trading off past glories. Wheras Norway with it's small population and huge oil and gas revenues has a full complement of world class experts and modellers.

Right, let's hope we lose the horror Thursday on the 00Z!

GATES OPEN & WEDNESDAY

Completely dry through and highs of 21-22. Result!

image.thumb.png.27db8e23755d03deee6897da32961d60.png

Very, very light showers in the afternoon, highs of 26!

Temps overnight into Thursday of 17-18.

image.thumb.png.ee99d4ba7aef4871cb6f86d21c9d90ae.png

THURSDAY

There is some nasty rain around, but this is better than the last run and the worst goes further north.

And ... woah! Highs of 23-24! Massive upgrade!

Temps overnight into Friday of 14-15.

image.thumb.png.381ee3536f3e60dab4e737e5ccd326c5.png

So, why the higher temperatures?

The pocket of low pressure has not developed to the south, though we need to watch that one in Spain, which has troubled us before. Latest on the right.

image.thumb.png.6be6c90d2210ae81eef0a09d20fde8c2.png

FRIDAY

Completely dry and highs of 20-21, again good for any necessary drying.

Temps overnight into Saturday of 12.

image.thumb.png.d9ddda52dc33dcdf5721a797172803f3.png

This is a great picture! The low in Spain doesn't develop and the high appears to be building in! Latest on the right.

image.thumb.png.c6d2494a3c7759a6ff387617c6fbfe25.png

SATURDAY

Completely dry and highs of 20-21.

Temps overnight into Sunday of 11-12.

image.thumb.png.ffadb7a0605983cb0c502dede5d49ffd.png

High pressure is winning! Latest on the right.

image.thumb.png.1141123ad7ab0d79a74b3c867d7288d2.png

SUNDAY

Completely dry and highs of 20-21.

Temps overnight into Monday of 11-12.

image.thumb.png.e1785aae1c8561cfb1222bf84ca3516c.png

Just look at the difference in the pressure picture on the right!

SUMMARY

We're BACK IN THE GAME. Yes, there's the threat of some rain on the Thursday, but the worst is north of the site and these temperatures would allow drying.

This is a MASSIVE upgrade on the runs of the last few days. The low pressure doesn't build in, the temperatures stay nice and pleasant, and it's dry.

COME ON.

So, I’m out walking this morning and spoke to the coxswain of our local lifeboat and casually asked him about what forecasts they use.  They use the U.K. met office forecast, he doesn’t trust any other one and they stopped using bbc about four years ago.  By the way I know him and we were talking about the new slipway they have, not as if I just randomly accosted a stranger😉

Before Bearded Theory there was huge doubt about a low pressure that would appear over France and move north in a NW direction.

YR had heavy heavy rain forecast a week out. The Met Office had dry.
YR flipped between heavy rain and dry. The Met office forecast dry.

Until 36 hours before..................

The Met Office changed and the actual weather was a months rain in under 24 hours breaking the previous rainfall record by more than double.

I had never seen weather charts like it for that low and historical data had little to compare to hence the doubts.

I have never seen such levels of doubt as we have now about whether or now low pressures will even form.

The weather knows climate change exists

Oh f**k evidence based opinions you are scaring me now !!!

I'm sure he's a nice fella he's is a lifeboat man after all but our very own Cassandra @Nobody Interesting has wielded a hammer of doom. Anyway I'm going on site tomoorow and that's in the bag.

It’s pissing it down in Bucks, ergo next weekend will be sunny 👍

Also, I blame Chris f**king Martin for all of this.

Unbelievably it's nice in West Yorkshire.

Got a 60th in a huge marquee tonight - might bring pre-festival vibes, but I'm facing a late fitness test.

The bastard I think he plays virtually for free as well remember Michael saying that but he had to accept the then minimum for the Pyramid of 75k. Remember that when you try to get to the bogs slipping in the mud as the loons sing Fix You in the freezing rain  and you think yes he fiuxcking well has.

So based on the operational runs done in the last 24 hours or so Thursday will be somewhere between 16 degrees and a complete and utter washout and 24 degrees and dry.

Basically yes.

We've had one positive run this morning in amongst so really sh*t ones since Wednesday.

I don't think this mornings sadly is one to cling to.

In 2016 the rain was so torrential it washed away my fish curry from its polystyrene tray. Took ages to move around the site.

in 2019 it was so relentlessly hot people were spontaneously combusting. Took longer to get around the site if you even had the energy.

2024 will be a doddle. Bit of rain, bit of sun - actually perfect. If you’ve never been before this will be a perfect Glasto experience.

So who else is scrambling about reassessing what clothes to take? Apart from the footwear, take for all eventualities

As I’m there for a whole week I always take clothes for all seasons. For the past few the bag with walking boots, gaiters, over trousers and thermals have been left in the car and not been retrieved. Their mere presence adjacent to the sight has been enough to placate the weather gods.

I thought this morning's GFS charts were just starting to line up with yesterday's Met office model, which is supposed to be more accurate for the UK anyway? I may be wrong, it might have been a different model, but i remember seeing the exact same patterns forming on another model yesterday.

    • Absolutely second this. Were great at Big Weekend and already have a great catalogue of songs forming so far. Would love to see them on the farm!
    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
