  1. Michael always used to say (I know because I went to see him do his annual 1 hour in the Green Fields every year|) that the Glastonbury he was at was the best one ever. In 2011, he didn't say that. As they say at Coachella, do the math.
  2. The fact that it is literally a "sh*tty job" means that if you can take it, it's probably the easiest one to do and maybe get. No lugging loads of stuff around and breaking your back. Once you realise that everything is just a state of mind then there is probably a Zen like state if you can only find it, just don't look down. That said, if you do, you see a load of arse cheeks reflected in the piss lake. A Glastonbury moment as it were...
  3. Very true missed out in the ballot in 2011 and found the way in via recycling and thanks the recycling gods we did. Plus I'm retired now so work after festival so am on site from Sunday before to Friday after an amazing experience and people in every way.
  4. Veteran recycler here now on my 9th year doing the sheds after festival. Big shout out to Water Aid and the loo cleaners - they always do a brilliant job and I never forget to thank them and try to clean up anyway after I have finished if necessary. I think Water Aid have taken on a lot a more few years back I had finished in the Other Stage and was thanking a lady who was cleaning, and she didn't understand a word I was gibbering. Brexit has finished all of that now, sadly, so it's only home-grown cleaners now. The loos in my humble opinion have never been better - Michaels' infrastructure project with the Mark IV long drops with their 20000 gallons capacity means most don't need emptying at all until after the festival bar the main areas. Thankfully the pilot with the roof has gone as well as it just kept the pong even more concentrated around the drops. They seem to be cleaned after each use by the Water Aid workers who take their job seriously and doping an amazing job. Same with the sinks and soaps as well. It's rare and welcome we see very few hired expensive plastic loos any more. In house infrastructure works - if only the Tories had taken the same approach to ours.
  5. Like Stewart Lee it's let itself go. The only worse thing than a bad Glastonbury is not going to Glastonbury.
  6. There was talk of a mass rush of the gate above Tom's Field by a group of scousers last year, I think during the night. I think they caught everybody eventually, or so they said !
  7. Hi lovely people festival season is nearly upon us and my mate and I do a few together and have a couple of tents that we pitch door to door. Last year we took a cheapie the sort you get from Argos for 30 quid now, and it was good when the wind didn't blow. But at Wilderness last year we had a bit of biblical rain and wind and water collected on the roof and the wind buckled and damaged a leg. Have anyone got any personal recommendations in the sub £100 category of what might be a suitable replacement - particularly wind wise. Don't worry we won't be using it space constraint areas and as workers in recycling in Tom's field they are banned anyway.
  8. Thanks it looks like the dog bollix - good for as a camp bed should you have an extra guest staying over as well. Will report back when it get used in anger at last.
  9. The beast has arrived £91 from eBay with a discount. It truly is a work of art, that said it weighs 10kg so will have to carted separately from the car to camp. I'm working after the festival in the recycling sheds so will be in Tom's Field from the Sunday before to the Friday after, so having a good bed was a must. It is well-made capable of strong self levelling on almost any ground and with built-in foam and ergonomic pillow and mat and feels like a real bed add a pillow and a sleeping bag, and it really is a Rolls-Royce thing. It has a washable nylon cover over a memory foam insert, so it is a proper portable bed. I'm sure it could cope with a very steep slope - the large webbed feet pivot as well, and it does seem very solid and well-built. All 8 legs are retractable to different lengths and lock quite tightly and securely, so it could cope with very humpy uneven and slopey ground seemingly at a breeze. The whole thing is sprung with elastic bungee type attachments, making the mattress a bit sprung in nature. The centre is a sort of well, they keep you immersed in it. I think it also serves as a sun bed type thing so you can raise the back as a back rest should you wish. Finally, you can store a lot of stuff under it and so keep your tent tidier than a lllo or a mat combo. I call it my camper van in a tent. Will report back after my first sleep. I went for the 8 leg for greater stability. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381416749860
  10. That's a cracker turns a humble tent into a poor man's campervan. If I win the lottery.......I'm not going mad but will buy the ultimate camp bed !
  11. Cheers very tempting to give myself and early Christmas present. I do a lot of festivals, so it is more of an 'investment' than a cost. Or hold off to post Christmas sales...... The Pro Logic has an even cheaper 6 leg version..... https://tackletarts.uk/bedchairs-and-accessories/bedchairs/prologic-c-series-6-leg-bedchair/?srsltid=AfmBOoqMG2SJimNESaMwazIxljC-DG4Nns9XfoZ7vNCBHm3Mhbvu8QtzCII
  12. This is similar with adjustable legs but probably not as good. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173201516463?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28
  13. Wow so perfect but pretty expensive ....a work of art no less. Maybe there is a cheaper version I shall get deep googling.
  14. Yup Oxfam and Infrastructure have the peachiest flat spots-recyclers are the bottom feeders of the pack. Early arrivals tend to bag the best spots and tarp out extra for their mates as well. I’ve tried everything to try and mitigate it and the best laid plans seem to evaporate when I finally get to sleep half cut. Which is why this year I want to tech out a solution once and for all. Caravans have levelling devices after all !
  15. The get there on Sunday debate is already being had - the flattest pitches are by the road and near the bogs or right up by the fence. The fence ones still aren't as good as they seem as I did after festival sheds last year so moved to one by the fence having previously coveted it, so now I know ! Greetings fellow volunteer, and thanks for your suggestions !
  16. I'm a Glastonbury recycler and have the privilege of camping in Tom's field up at the farm every year. For those that know it, it has a notorious slope that has led to many a bad night's sleep. Air mattresses and stuffing the end with blankets and clothes doesn't work, so my mind in this fallow period has turned to how one could effectively mitigate this. My first idea is to buy a cheap camp bed and then have a sheet of thick plywood with holes drilled in it that can be lashed to the bottom legs and levelled with the help of a spirit level and cable ties. Does anybody have a critique or alternative suggestions ? I can see a Dragon's Den down the line where I make the pitch "you know when you end up with a slope for camping "to incredulous snorting Dragons. Edit: My v1.0 is already looking a bit shaky as reviews suggest this camp bed is just that, a bit shaky with 4 legs on the ground so 3 would have to be levelled at various heights if the stability was to be maintained. https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15987165/eurohike-utah-4-leg-campbed-15987165
  17. Famous last words said to Noah when he was smirking about his ark !
  18. I'll buy that and any bridges you might have up for sale.... resigned to going Thursday now in the grim and bear it style but with full disaster weather kit - just in case. Don't want to miss The Dinner Party !
  19. I was thinking of going down Friday now at the crack of dawn rather than Thursday or if we do go Thursday aim for after 5pm and staying in quiet camping. Does anyone know if that fills up normally -and what are folks views on the weather microclimate of EOTR there and the ability of the land to shake it off and how far is it from the car park to quiet camping. Cheers fingers crossed for a better forecast and besides after Thursday is looking pretty good for the rest of the weekend.

Had to look that up nice... they should do covers of the headliners and steal their thunder - which might be actually real on the Sunday.

As a rule of thumb I'm almost never disappointed at the 2 BBC stages so if you want to go off piste and see something new and good they are a good bet. The crowds at the comedy tent have sadly done it for me now.

That would be it at Kite they were on a small stage, and I was on the front row - astonishing sight for this 61-year-old male I was briefly in love despite being married !

They are doing very well must be said - and very visual - I do wonder if they are a duo Flaming Lips. Weather looking a bit iffy - gazebo being packed as emergency tent airlock.
