Headliners 2023

“I was at a party last week and someone told me that headliners were AM, GnR and Taylor…obvs Taylor isn’t right but interesting they also mentioned GnR. Worth pointing out this a music industry thing, not just a Halloween party.”

This is what he said.

Maybe contradicting himself then. The original post was re. Swizzle dropping out - but it must have bitten the dust when the first Headliners 2023 thread was deleted.

So my point is that perhaps he’s getting good info but the context behind it is up for debate. Seems pretty clear that AM and GNR are in, but the circumstances in which they are in is up for debate. GNR “in” for Taylor is the misdirect.

As I said, Emily has been going on about GNR for much longer. It wouldn’t surprise if they were always part of the plan, and it’s the replacement for Taylor that is still in contention. Absolutely cannot see them going for Elton in place of Taylor when there are plenty more suitable options they could explore first. Getting Harry to fly in after his Belgium date isn’t that much of a logistical challenge if anything. That’s only one act.

Interesting. I floated the idea that GnR were possibly a Elton replacement rather than Taylor, which makes far more sense, but it could be that Elton was never really in the frame and it was always GnR. If so, I’d chalk the Rihanna talk up to Taylor being out and her being the replacement, which again makes far more sense. Don’t see Dua doing it next year - surely she’d want her time at the top of the Pyramid to be framed around a huge new album, not a three year old album (assuming she doesn’t have a new one out next year, mind. Always possible).

Yes I agree. I think it would be a perfect year for Dua to step in but if her touring schedule doesn’t work, it doesn’t work.

Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses, Dua Lipa looks very glastonbury.

You never know though, they could still have her on standby. If they are exploring trickier options (your Rihanna’s or your Beyoncé’s), then there is still a chance that Dua could get the call later on if one doesn’t materialise.

Dua won't be planning a larger tour for next year, but who knows - like an Adele or a Stormzy she'll know the gravity / magnitude of the offer and maybe pull together a one off show for it?

Especially if Taylor d@bbin down means that 2024 is off the table for her, might be a now or never.

We can’t rule out Emily’s comment about all male headliners either tbh. And if they are looking for a pop act and let’s say it’s for the Sunday. We absolutely cannot rule out Harry Styles. Harry flying in after a festival park show in Belgium doing a smaller production Glastonbury show is extremely possible. (I also think he might be another one that they could keep on standby while they explore other options).

Dua had done her current set at festivals already so that wouldnt be too difficult to do. Its just rehearsing it all again and such. Then maybe adding some surprises. If that was even a possibility though.

Do we reckon Lizzo has a shot at headlining el pointo?  I think she’d smash it personally and would be a great act to balance up the three if AM + Reg/GnR are filling the Fri/sun slots. I know people are taking moonshots with Rihanna/Beyoncé but let’s be fair, Lizzo  is definitely touring the new album next year and will be in Europe. I know there will be lots of people shouting her down as not big enough, but Special is a great album and her star is still ascending.

Elton moving that Paris date is pretty big imo. Can't remember when that switch happened though

Not next year.

If you read back the main Lizzo thread which was updating in real time during G19 you will see people losing their marbles and a lot of people saying she'd be an absolute shoo-in as a headliner.

Nothing much has changed since then in principle and she's racked up a couple of other big tunes..... but I don't think the balance has quite tipped in terms of making her a natural choice.

That said - - people are wanting wildcards. And if the Eavii were so out of options as to give it to her she wouldn't phone it in.

It’s big, but we’ve been in similar situations with Elton before. Guy is the king of being free during Glastonbury and not doing it.

The difference this year being a source of @roughbloke, who gave the correct info for this year’s headliners, saying he’s doing it, and the fact that Reg rescheduled those Paris gigs that would have had him playing there during next year’s Glasto weekend.

I understand roughbloke has since said he got slightly different info off another source that said TS was playing, but clearly that is wrong, whereas the previous source appears, on the face of it, to be more reliable

I’m sure this may have been covered already but is there not a chance that Elton moved the Paris date so that he had an off-day after his supposed BST show on the Friday?

Well yeah. They just need to announce it to confirm that. Then it becomes a will he or wont he situation.

Are people thinking headline (a la Macca) over legend slot for Elton?

Yeah. He couldnt be less than that. Its not as if he headlined prior and its just a parting shot for him and he gladLy would take the slot. He sold out his uk tour and BST in no time.

Very good point. Would love to see the guy!

I was really hoping Dua would be there last year as she was originally down for 2020, and don't really want to get my hopes up for this year. I think she'd be great, although maybe headlining Other? Feels like she's somewhere in between.

True, I'm not sure why I lowballed her! Trauma from having some of that 2020 taken from me hahaha. Future Nostalgia and the rest of her discography really does slap

Edit: missing word

    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
