Cant see swifty for 2024 myself. She should be in europe but doing all her own dates / era’s tour. Glasto wont get a sniff when it comes to that money machine i expect.

the dates will be carefully aligned around stadium availability.

we might get her in 2025 once all her own touring is done. Maybe. She’ll probably have 2 more albums by then!

Madonna is a meeting of event and performer that needs to happen before she calls it quits on touring. I suspect the fest would have her at the drop of a hat so the ball is in her court. Money / tour production makes me think more likely not than so, sadly.

Dua and fender are shoo-ins

Taylor was happy to take the GF money previously.

Interesting points about Fender. Seems to be on the right track, especially after going from mid Other to mid Pyramid to Pyramid sub all in the space of one lineup, but could easily get knocked by a delayed next album or one that doesn’t quite hit the same.

Seems to be a lot of obvious pop names we could have lined up with the likes of Dua, Taylor, maybe Harry, and even Madge being an outside possibility, but I’m struggling to think of many legacy rock acts, or rock acts at all, who we’re still due. Still feels a little too soon for Foos to come back, and the festival has more or less ticked off all the other biggies at this point, especially after having three of them top this years bill. Wonder if next year could be the first year where there’s no rock/guitar act headlining, or is there somebody obvious I’m forgetting about? Maybe Depeche Mode actually make it work before calling it quits?

I can see U2 having another pop at it at some point.

Coldplay on their farewell tour is a given.

But yeah first timer heritage bands to play, minimal options. The obvious one was Fleetwood Mac, but looks like that ship has sailed unfortunately.

Would AC/DC do it? I don’t know enough about them tbh, never been on my radar.

U2 coming back would be a total win in my book. Still not sure if it’s actually gonna happen, but I hope so, even though it’d be hilarious if it just pissed it down all through their set again.

Tbh after Guns N Roses now doing it I wonder if the door is open to some stuff we may have written off in the past. Could RHCP be an actual possibility somewhere down the line?

And if AC/DC ever up and tour again I wouldn’t be too surprised to see them booked. Now that the list has gotten whittled down so much I think the festival will actively pursue some of these acts to tick them off before it’s too late.

Or, y’know, just Coldplay again. The now seven year/four festival gap since they last played already seems too good to be true. Maybe it’s time we just accept that they’re probably gonna be the big rock act next year.

I’m starting to think Depeche Mode might finally happen after @siscoheard they’re keeping the date free.

Depeche Mode, Dua Lipa, Foo Fighters is my guess at the moment.

Same info said they’re doing the o2 in Feb 24 so if that gets announced (Later this year) then I’ll start believing it’s possible

I think Foos are absolutely nailed. It’s them and 2 others imo.

Is it too soon? Yes. But that never stopped Coldplay.

Coldplay at least release new albums that they play heavily from and completely change their live set up to accommodate each time they play, as well as being friends of the festival. Foos would be playing more or less the exact same set with one or two songs that nobody cares about or likes from the last two albums thrown in. Think next year is just that little bit too early and ‘25, possibly with a new album, seems more realistic if they’re to return so soon.

Foos have actually released 2 albums since their last set (technically 3 if you count their heavy metal project) and probably have another album on the way. All the new tunes heavily feature in the set.

3+ albums since their last headline set is more than Coldplay have.

Their tours normally last two years don’t they? I guess they’ll do a festival run next summer anyway so hopefully Glastonbury are finally part of that.

We’ll see. I obviously think they’ll play again at some point, but if Taylor hadn’t died I don’t think people would be expecting them back so soon, and a band member dying being the crux of a band returning to headline is kind of weird. They obviously intend on continuing despite a lot of people being adamant they were done for, so I see no reason they need to be brought back so soon. Outside of your Coldplays, Muses, Radioheads and maybe even Arctics (aka British bands who worked their way up the lineup whilst creating a friendship with the Eavi) there aren’t any acts who get rebooked to headline with such regularity and I don’t see that happening with Foos.

Add this to the list of things we disagree on that can be lorded over the other when it does/doesn’t happen 😁

Pretty good guess. I’m not sure The 1975 will get there but can fully see the other 5 playing.

I’d maybe say Sam Fender could step up in 25.

Think someone mentioned they were penciled in for 2021 before Covid mucked it all up? Album cycles seem every two years so another positive record might see them there with the festival honouring that previous placement. I agree re Fender, it's just a matter of when now for them.

The main reason I think it’s going to happen is because they were looking at European festivals and postponed it to 2024. Sounds to me like the festivals they really wanted to play didn’t have space for them.

For what it’s worth, the metal album was Dave Grohl solo as opposed to the Foo Fighters.

Taylor was in a slightly more vulnerable position career-wise post Reputation which may have been a reasoning for accepting festival slots, unlike now where she’s an instant sell out and literally untouchable. Hopefully she’s happy to still fulfil her prior festival engagements, but she could very easily just… not, and stick to her own shows.

But much like Madonna, god I hope they can bag her now that she’s doing a guaranteed greatest hits tour and not later when she’s back to doing lots of new album + a couple of hits.

I love Madonna, seen her live on Confessions and Sticky and Sweet tours which were great, but the thought of her playing Glastonbury kind of terrifies me, her recent live performances (that I’ve seen) have been pretty ropey..  we’ll have to see how the Celebration tour starts in Canada.

Before she grossed half a billion dollars just in ticket sales from one country. 4 nights each at Wembley, Manchester etc   a better thing. And now she crossed the "i dont need to play festivals line" compared to previously when she was going to do the whole circuit. Now only a handful can afford her so its not really worth it to do glasto. Emily should get dua and know she has a female headliner that wont be as divisive as taylor.
