The Weather Thread 2023

OK, it’s time for a real chart.  This is the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts prediction for upper air heights for summer 2023 (June, July and August) compared to the long term average.
The orange blob over the U.K. is predicting a much warmer and drier summer than usual.   Obviously covers the whole summer but bodes well for Glasto….

Pretty scary for climate change, much of the earth above-average figures.

How did I miss this at the weekend? What a great start. Looking forward to more charts! 🌞🌞

local weather forecast talking about the lack of rain and low reservoirs in the south west already

Yes, saw that, a drier than normal February hasn’t helped. A nice dry spring to keep the ground firm for the build. Doesn’t seem that long ago we were in a panic about the state of the Somerset levels!

So, a couple more charts from ECMWF. These charts are using the same set of data as the chart I posted above, but are for June only, and this time show the expected temperature when compared to the long term average. As June is still a way off, we’re really only looking for trends here, so I’ve shown the computer run from February and from March. Both agree that much of Western Europe (including Glasto) will be between 0.5 and 1 centigrade warmer than average. This may not sound like much, but in climatological terms is a significant difference. If April’s run shows the same result in a couple of weeks, we can start to be confident that we’re in for a warm/hot June.
