Remember people will always dunk on a Labour leader whatever they do this is how things work. Meanwhile people won’t say a thing about the Tories who have actually facilitated this.

yeah maybe. I just think Starmer has made a mistake...same when he kicked out Corbyn to be honest. It just sets it up for a fight, which I'm not sure he'll win and which labour really can't afford to be having.

And sometimes they will be right. With a summer of discontent ahead, if it wasn't Tarry it would have been someone else.

& Probably will be.

Is it a fight or is it just the usual lot kicking off? You know these people very rarely do this over the Tories, they are the ones that can fix this not Starmer. This is what the Tories want.

I guess the logic for Starmer and co...pissing off unions etc is not as bad as pissing off people they're trying to get to vote for them...for a start where are left supporter going to go...they could vote green along with loads of disenchanted tories, or maybe some socialist worker party or just not vote. But, is that worse for labour that looking to be supporting strikes as it gets more out of control over the summer and beyond?

Still, I think he didn't have to sack this guy.

I'm sure it's what the tories want. But it's still a thing.

If these people want to focus on the Tories and the cost of living crises they could literally do it rather than take part in moaning at Labour. Look at the news on energy bills this evening, yet the same old people will moan about Labour instead of the Tories who aren’t doing anything.

It boggles the mind the leeway some people give the Tories.

The Labour Party are supposed to support the unions... thats why they are focusing on them rather than the c**tservatives.  If the Labour Party aren't supporting the unions why should the unions support the Labour Party?

Because Labour policy will support workers and enable better working conditions. The aim of Labour should be to get into government, having people on the picket line might not help that given how the media operates in this country. Therefore Labour (in their mind) have to take this stance, it’s not that they don’t support the unions at all.

Exactly, I'm not a socialist by any measure, but I'm a working class guy and although never part of a union on the one occasion in my life when I could have crossed a picket line I didn't, not because I had any fear of consequences, but because I didn't think it was right, labour have lost the plot, they no longer represent the workers of this country.

He also wasn’t sacked for standing on the picket line.

Do you really think if he'd said what he said in Wotherspoon's, he'd still have been sacked?

I know train drivers now are private sector but there are public sector ones following and he's going to look a bigger tit if he says the unions should get what they want, then win power and the public finances are not in a fit state to give the unions what they want.

When is the leader of the opposition going to focus on the tories? You've got to wonder what on earth he's thinking with this latest utterly vapid 'growth growth growth' relaunch. The uk is fucked, the tories are a shambles. He has no instinct for grasping the moment. The last month he should have been whoring himself out in the media savaging the tories' record, not giving sunak or truss an inch to make their cases in their shitty contest, and really making the case for better pay and conditions for ordinary people. Instead its the union leaders who have been doing it and taking the plaudits.

Starmer is so shit its unbelievable.

If he was claiming to be the shadow minister for food/drink* while protesting outside Wetherspoons then yeah.

He didn’t though, so that point isn’t relevant. He went against collective responsibility so was sacked. It doesn’t matter where it was said, he can’t make up policy on the hoof.

I’ve watched a lot of Labour news and he has regularly criticised the Tories, did you watch his speech on Monday? He focussed on the Tories plenty there as well as giving more insight into Labour policy. I suspect you don’t really care for the facts though as you’d find something else to criticise him for.

If he is so shit and as you don’t live here; why do you care? Honestly you’d be better off ignoring it all considering it doesn’t impact you.

Eddie Dempsey for PM. Haven’t seen a more honest, accurate or powerful delivery from a politician than this in years.
