Worthy Farm CHEESE

My pie alarm has gone off. 
 

cheese and onion pie is an absolutely excellent addition to the roster, and as a meat eater it’s still on regular rotation at Pie Towers. Very welcome. Blue cheese and red onion, if you really want to know. 
 

while talking of cheesy veggie pies, the Scottish love a macaroni pie, which I’d initially written off as just too heavy. I was wrong; it’s majestic. Needs a decent dollop of hot sauce, though.

It's THE best pie. Nothing else comes close. My old work canteen used to put it on and I used to get irritated that all the carnivores would be all over it. If you were on a late shift it was likely to have run out.

It might just be that I've always gone for fish over pies if I've gone to a chippy, and until going down the veggie I've never even looked at for veg options.

Which is kinda bizarre, as cheese and onion slices / bakes / pasties have been one of my favourite things for years.

I love blue cheese, but you do have to be careful with it lest it overpower absolutely everything and leaves your breath smelling like a used sock drawer.

A friend of mine at uni used to do chicken breasts stuffed with danish blue cheese and in blue cheese sauce as an occasional stoned Sunday special. Couldn't move off the sofa for about 6 hours afterwards.

If i smell as a result of over-cheesing, thats a problem for everyone else and not for me 😇

Looks like a shortcrust style pastry. I like this on the base, but for a lid as well it might prove a tadge industrial: this isnt criticism, i havnt had a Holland's pie for yonks, they dont tend to get dahn sarf too often - but i for one welcome them. Wright's pies from the potteries are very decent too, theres something so dependable about a lovely solid northern pie!

Ah the great controversial question. I had a very good friend who would be incandescent with rage if she ordered a cheese and onion pie and it had potato in it and so in her honour whenever I make it at home I stick with cheese and onion. I'll be honest I don't have such strong feelings either way but if I put potato in I know she would be judging me 😄

I'm in favour of a certain amount of potato.  I think it gives the sauce something to bind to, otherwise it can end up a little runny.

a cheese and onion pie should be cheese and onion and a cheese, onion and potato pie should have potato in. When they call it a cheese and onion pie but put potato in sneakily thats not ok 🙂 

I LOVE cheese and onion pie, esp home made so I am beyond jealous right now of your tea!! 🤩

Don't get me wrong, the potato should very much be an afterthought. Don't think it would need to be called out in the name, in the same way that you wouldn't call a steak and kidney pie a steak and kidney and onion pie.

My husband is one of those guys!! If he orders something and it has a rogue ingredient he doesn't like he is not a fan!
