Not yet road-tested, but there is a new BBC Sounds channel launched today - 6 Music Indie Forever... good to see Lamacq on the roster!

Yeah this is good. Maybe this will keep indie* shite off the rest of 6 music and likely be the end of Friday nights Indie for Ever, arguably the worst 2 hours in their schedule.

* current definition of indie (annoying boring guitar bands as opposed to the original definition - anyone on an independent label

I couldn't define 'Indie' but can, cleary, see that you don't like it Skip. And now I'm intrigued as to just how bad it can be. I don't follow music much, so have no idea. Have you got an example of one of these 'terrifying' tracks?

Half tempted to second he give some anti-recommendations, if only as given my taste for guitar-based music, could be a way to discover a song I might like that haven't heard given I don't really listen to radio.

doing well with Brothers .... just won a prize in the competition twice ... 2 X 12 cans on the way ... 3rd time not a winner so I'll hold back a few entries for now .... the codes came from the last prize of the shandy I won with them . thats my cider for next years festival sorted

One of my mates is into heavy metal guitar based music. It's not a genre that I can 'deal' with but it's each to their own.

I only asked for an example because I 'needed' an example - not having exposed myself to 'Indie' music. I would have thought that 'some' of it must be OK though - after invoking the theory of probability.

I think there's a lot of musical genres where you can respect the best parts of it. Generally, I'm not a fan of rap music but I can respect it when done very well and the song works.

Some indie is brilliant. using the original definition it wasn’t really a genre as such, it referred to any band or artist on an independent label. Somehow most people nowadays have made it into a genre, being beige boring guitar music.

An example of brilliant indie would be anything by St Etienne. An example of shite indie music- anything by Arctic Monkeys.

Thanks for the info and guidance Skip.

I found the former quite tolerable, but the latter not. That was only over two song each, mind.

Yep, Stock, Aitken and Waterman used to be listed in the NME indie charts.

Don't know when it stopped but vaguely remember the same conversations going on  40 years ago about what constitutes indie.

People have been complaining about this modern, new-fangled definition of indie since at least the early nineties, possibly earlier.

Using the original definition, would the acts on Stock Aitken Waterman be indie?

The thing is AM were on an indie label (possibly still are), so would meet the original definition. But I get your point... there was and still is a whole lot of guitar band sameness, what some around call indie landfill

I'm old enough to remember this. Kylie and Jason were regulars on the indie chart for a while.

Question for those in the know…

Do hospitality tickets give access to Maceo’s and places like The Park crew bar?

No

just the hospitality area/bars/flushing toilets  behind the pyramid, the hospitality camping area, the shortcut between pyramid and the other and the quick access to site through the wicket gate from the hospitality car park.

They wont get you in the Park crew bar - thats its own wristband - but it will get you into the Tow and Hitch, the one in Silver Hayes, and the Acoustic one if it isnt too busy - had a pal with a hospitality wristband one year when i had a crew one, and we had a bash at seeing who would and who wouldnt let us in. Fun research, if you like pints 😄

I'm suspecting that that's speaking from direct experience. Is it?
