Yeah, a shandy or 3 has saved me many a time as I get older but still want to sup at the footie etc.

I actually really like a shandy. The lower alcohol content is an attraction, obvs, but I also like a really refreshing lemony drink, so the drier the lager the better it is with a pile of citrus in it.
Plus I live within a five min walk of the south coast - so calling me a soft southern shandy drinking twat is unerringly accurate and quite a fair summation

I guess I'm an alcoholic (who'd have thought) but I just don't get shandy. Mind you, I don't 'get' lemonade either.* 

 

* - Although I would make an exception for the 'real' lemonades that little guerrilla set up stalls used to sell at Glastonbury in the 90's - to the best of my recollection. They were life savers.

I remember those lemonade stalls! Haven’t seen one for a few fests - used to be one hanging around by the cider bus, and another in the Jazzworld stage (west holts if you’re not ancient) and they were a magnificent morning pickmeup. Actual bits of fruit being smushed, with loads of ice and spring water. Delicious. 
 

i love a drink but I just don’t like being drunk at all - haven’t been for about six years now, and it’s much preferable for me. I’m not pushing it for others, you do as you please, it’s just not my bag any more!

The people who had those 'pop up' lemonade stalls in the sunny Glasto's back then must have made a fortune. I know that I gave them plenty of money. They were, as you say, 'a magnificent morning pick me up'. No better description. I think they may have even  saved lives!

 

It may come as a surprise to some but I haven't been drunk for years either. And I too hate the days when I used to get stupidly drunk. Never mind waking up in strangers beds, it was the waking up in a police cell n knowing why you were there hat really affected me.

 

The above said, I do drink like a bastard. The moment I wake up and go downstairs in the morning is the moment I start drinking pints of G & T. However, I also take a product (let's call it) that allows you to drink like a very thirsty person, while not getting lashed (ie stupidly drunk). The ingredients that will no doubt kill me, but are just too yummy. So, I 'get' your desire not to be drunk.

Went to see United (as is the case most weekends) away at Sunderland on Saturday and before the game met up with a couple of Sunderland supporting fellow volunteers that I met at last year's festival. Was nice to meet up and reminisce especially given the fallow year but it was also a lovely reminder of the great community Glastonbury can create.

 

And in keeping with the Glasto community vibe, abumped into MUFCOK on the concourse at HT.

There was a point in time (many years ago) when I attended AA meetings. One bloke there did his 'service' going to Winson Green* prison in Birmingham and visiting alcoholics within the prison. He said that he'd lost count of the number of prisoners doing life for murdering people and not having any memory of it - an alcoholic blackout. Now, that really is dangerous territory. Been there a few times and each time I came back around I was frightened about the lack of any control and newly discovered knowledge about my actions whilst in that state.

 

* - I once met a black bloke in a pub in Birmingham, who was named 'Winston Green' by his parents. I refused to believe it and then he showed me his ID. It was true - his parents really had 'gone for it'.

I suppose it's good news. Best I've had in a long while anyway, but still bordering on insignificant. I've had an art piece included in a USA based art magazine. It's not a 'piece' that I am particularly fond of, but it kind of suited the brief in the call for submissions from anyone and everyone.

 

Actually, I'm going to be thankful to 'Robyn' (meaning 'bright fame' ) for picking my piece of work. I know not if 'Robyn' is a male or female, but wish them luck with the new magazine

 

Will post a copy once the magazine is officially published - which is soon.
