The Crowds 2019

Couldn’t handle that crowd size so passed on Kylie after a few songs near the back. The biggest crowd I’ve seen at the Pyramid by some stretch. By Sunday I’m just not up to be in the middle of a huge number of people.

That Kylie crowd must be 100k plus, there is barely any movement on the fringes or at the back.

And yet she can't sell out Castlefield Bowl. Must be the 70 quid+ price that's putting punters off.

Sure today's performance might help her shift some future concert tickets and have a knock on effect. To be honest I didn't realise she was touring as much lately as she has been.

You're right re: the probable jump in sales. Tbf, the Castlefield Bowl gig hasn't been advertised much and tickets have been on sale for months.

I think it's more about the vibe.. I wouldn't pay a penny to see her , which is not to say she is rubbish just not my thing...but after a really hard GF and coming to the end then she is just what was needed .

A big dance  and singalong ..

How the Guardian gave her a 4/5 I'll never know. On that basis, Kylie should get a 10/5

They gave The Killers 5/5, so they're either easily pleased or they're being paid off the PR teams.

aye, plus the lack of competition during the daytime.

yes I suppose, but that's subjective...  If I was there  (big miserable face as I'm not) and knowing what a blast I had in 2017 at the legend slot I would definitely have been there .It's a feel good thing after all the excess of the previous few days .

Good wholesome entertainment for all as you can tell by the crowds .. They got it right  and bang on

The Cure had the quietest/most subdued entrance atmosphere I've ever heard for a headliner. Is it just bad sound quality or are the crowds really quiet this year?

Even at Kylie it didn't seem that loud despite the massive crowd.

I've got absolutely nothing to back this up other than comparing this years coverage to previous years, but i think they've changed the way they mix the sound for tv. I've noticed that the sound quality/mixing of most of these live sets is much better than it has been in the past, where bands would always sound thin and tinny (e.g. rolling stones sounded awful in tv but it sounded great in the field).

I wonder if a side effect of that is they have less sound from the crowd mics going in. The crowd visually have looked really into it, but this hasn't really come across too loudly audibly i agree (even the killers crowd didnt sound that loud on tv, but you could tell it was deafening from crowd footage ive seen).

Unless it's just me they seem to be using select camera angles to avoid showing it possibly being quite sparse at the back of the field or is that just me.

I'm at the back.  Its pretty sparse.  Think Mumford and Sons style.  Lots of people wandering off....

JP busy when we left Streets but not exceptionally so. The usual issue at the Pyramid - crammed on the pathways at the top but if you can get through the initial bit there is a lot of room. The Cure sound great tho.

Saw more people leaving early today than in many other years. I wonder if the combination of somewhat uninspiring evening line up and the fact that the heat probably worn many a person out that they left earlier than planned

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
